Steve Waugh signs with Kent

Steve Waugh's management company, TEAM-Duet, announced today that Steve Waugh would join Kent County Cricket Club for one month. His first match will be on 21st August and his tour of duty will be completed on 22nd September. In that time Waugh will play four four-day games and five one-day matches.

Robert Joske of Duet said, "We looked at the Australian program and found that Steve would not get any match practice prior to the Pakistan series if he stays in Australia. Steve decided that county cricket would provide him with some valuable time at the crease. The subsequent interest from English clubs has been overwhelming."

Earlier today Steve commented, "I am looking forward to the opportunity to play some tough cricket and this stint will provide excellent preparation for the upcoming season."

"It has been 15 years since I last played county cricket so it is quite exciting and I look forward to making a strong contribution at Kent County Cricket Club," he said.

Kent is a division one team in the Frizzell County Championship and the Norwich Union League. The county is currently placed second and fifth in the respective competitions.
