Kumble ruled out
of second Test

Ashish Shukla in Trent Bridge

Leg-spinner Anil Kumble was on Wednesday ruled out for the second Test against England starting on Thursday because of a calf injury.

This paves the way for off-spinner Harbhajan Singh to play his first Test on English soil.

Indian team manager Ranga Reddy said Kumble's injury is not serious enough to warrant his return to India.

A test would be conducted on Kumble's injured calf shortly, he said.

This is the third time on the tour that Kumble has been afflicted by a calf injury.
