NZ women's cricket tour of India cancelled

Jittery over the security situation in India following the US-led attacks on Afghanistan, the New Zealand women's cricket tour of India has been cancelled, New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive Martin Snedden said.

In a statement, Snedden said, "In my view, the level of risk which exists here (India) is unacceptable."

"The Indian Women's Cricket Association is an organisation which has a voluntary administration and few resources. It was clear to me that there would be little or no security arrangements in place for the team and no ability to remove the team quickly from a region or out of the country, should there be civil unrest or an escalation of military or terrorist activity," Snedden added.

The White Ferns were to have played five one-day internationals, and a Test during a month-long tour of India, which was to have begun next week.

Last month Snedden had cancelled the men's tour of Pakistan.
