Shane Lee to join Australian squad

New South Wales all-rounder Shane Lee is flying out to join up with the Australian squad for the one-day series with India, it was announced today.

Lee, 27, flew out of Sydney on Saturday afternoon and is set to arrive in Mumbai on Sunday evening.

He is expected to link up with the rest of the Kelvinator-sponsored Australian squad in Pune, ahead of the second match of the five-game one-day series, replacing Michael Kasprowicz, who will fly home with Test players Colin Miller, Justin Langer, Michael Slater & Jason Gillespie.

Kasprowicz was set to stay with the tour party when it was decided on Friday evening that Gillespie should return home to rest.

However, following further discussion, the Queensland fast bowler did not travel with the squad to Bangalore and Lee was called up instead.

Shane Lee Lee, the elder brother of fast bowler Brett, last played for Australia in the ICC knock-out defeat at the hands of India in Kenya in late 2000.

Yet to make his Test debut, the all-rounder, who has captained Australia A as well as New South Wales on occasions this past season, has played 44 one-day internationals, scoring 452 runs at 16.74 and taking 48 wickets at 25.70 with an economy rate of 4.38.

The one-day series begins with a day-night match in Bangalore on 25 March. That match is followed by day-games at Pune (28 March), Indore (31 March), Vizag (3 April) and Goa (6 April).

The Australians practiced on Saturday afternoon after arriving in Bangalore on a morning flight from Chennai.
