Delhi police team may visit SA, England

The Delhi police team investigating the cricket match-fixing case will soon leave for South Africa, England and other countries to widen their probe.

This was disclosed by Delhi Police Commissioner Ajay Raj Sharma at his annual press conference on Friday evening.

"Because of certain matters we got stuck and we could not proceed further. We have asked the Government of India for permission to send our team aborad for further investigations so that the case could reach its logical conclusion," Sharma told newsmen.

When asked when the team would leave Delhi, he said it "could happen in the near future".

Junior police officials however refused to comment on the commissioner's statement.

The Delhi police had registered a case against former South Africa cricket captain Hansie Cronje and others for fixing matches during the India South Africa series. They had also arrested alleged bookmaker Rajesh Kalra, actor Kishen Kumar and others for their involvement in the scandal.. However, once all of them were released on bail, they could not proceed further.
