300 Test Wickets For Muthiah Muralitharan
When he claimed the wicket of South African skipper Shaun Pollock in the
second innings of the Durban Test, off-spinner Muthiah Muralitharan became
the first Sri Lankan and the 17th bowler in Test history to capture 300
wickets.
By achieving this landmark in his 58th Test match Murali is now the
second quickest bowler to reach 300 wickets in least Test matches.
Australian paceman Dennis Lillee needed 56 Tests for his 300th wicket in
1981-82.
However it was by far the quickest by a spinner in Test history -
Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne had reached his landmark in 63 Tests in
1997-98.
