Kuruvilla heads MCA junior selection committee

Speedster Abey Kuruvilla, who retired from first class cricket at the end of last season after playing a major role in Bombay regaining the Ranji Trophy, has been elevated to chairman of the Mumbai Cricket Association's under-16 and under-14 selection committee.

He replaces another former medium-pacer Pradeep Kasliwal.

Former off-spinner Ranjan Baindoor also finds a place on the committee. He takes the place of Guru Gupte, who voluntarily opted out for personal reasons, according to MCA joint secretary Pravin Barve.

Ajit Wadekar stays as chairman of the Ranji Trophy and under-22 committees and will be assisted by Milind Rege, Chandrakant Pandit and Abdul Ismail, a former Bombay swing bowler of the seventies, who has replaced Dilip Sardesai following the completion of the latter's four-year term.

The following are the other selection committees:

Under-19 and MCA colts team: Nitin Shirodkar (chairman), Gopal Koli, Suresh Shetty and Ajit Savant.

Under-16 and under-14: Abey Kuruvilla (chairman), Sanjay Patil, Shankar More and Ranjan Baindoor.
