Company's foray into modem manufacture is part of its decision to diversify its product portfolio, Microtek Managing Director N K Aggarwal said.

Microtek chose CIS because of its expertise in designing and manufacturing of modems. The modems are based on the 56K Rockwell Flex Technology chipset, conforming to the latest ITU-T V 90 standard, Aggarwal said.

Microtek is part of the Action Group and already manufactures over 12 different models of colour and monochrome monitors besides a range of multimedia speakers, keyboards and mice.

The company has 40 per cent of the Indian market share in computer monitors.

With the launch of the modems, Microtek is planning to cash in on the Internet boom. The aim is to primarily target the small-office home-office market, which according to IDC India release, has grown by 89 per cent in the last fiscal.
