'BPCL is a great company'

Mumbai, September 16, 2003: 'HPCL and BPCL are unlikley to be divested in the next 6 months,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

sanjana   :  sir can i buy Wockhardt Ltd at this price and i have HPCL@300 please advice do u want it to hold or exit can i buy BPCL at this price please advice
Ramesh S Damani   :  Hello everyone thanks for joining. Let's start. BPCL is a great company and should make a good investment. HPCL and BPCL are unlikley to be divested in the next 6 months.

ashah   :  Sir, In todays Business line Mr. Malaya seems confident of winning Herbertson battle..Are you adding more Macdowell now????
Ramesh S Damani   :  I hope he uses it to unlock value for shareholders. It is high time to pay attention to the poor shareholders in Mcdowell and not just Herbertsons.

sanjana   :  sir i have TISCO@225 and TATA POWER@166 do i hold or exit please advice sir
Ramesh S Damani   :  I would hold on to both. I own both.

baracuda   :  mallya has said that he will match higher any offer made by chabrias so where is all this cash going to come from is he going to milk mcdowell inorder to buy out herbertsons
Ramesh S Damani   :  Raise money from outside sources. This will force him to unlock value.

ashah   :  Sir do you feel Max stock around 95-100 rs. band has found very strong support base and looks to give good return as valuation process of its mumbai circle stake in Hutch has been started..Do suggest buying even as a trading bet also(besides long term BPO and Insurance strories)
Ramesh S Damani   :  The stock is a good investment but not a trading call. I am just going through the balance sheet. I own it. Insurance will be a big business.

sanujkadavil   :  sir bse says shre rajastan syntex not complying with listing norms..and you are saying that company s management are very efficient..what is the reality. theeir announcement through bseindia.com was only in 2000.after that theyhaven.t announce anything through bse site except resultls...still you are recommanding for long term.. if why????????something cooking on this counter other than post 2005.
Ramesh S Damani   :  As I have always said look at market cap to determine value. At these market caps you can be patient and wait for a turnaround.

md1   :  sir, should i buy mcdowell using rupee cost averaging system or in one go?
Ramesh S Damani   :  A base quantity could be bought at current rates. The rest can be added at a later date.

sanujkadavil   :  sir what are the parameters you are analysing for buying a stock like ..p/e,eps,market cap.,marketcap-sales ratio. atc
Ramesh S Damani   :  All of them including intangibles like quality of management, I am excited about the sector.

baracuda   :  the beer ind is finally getting some mention in the red papers of late so do yu finally see beer sales picking up in the countryand will ub beer deliver the goods this year
Ramesh S Damani   :  The news is very bullish. When they did this in UP, sales of beer boomed. Sales will take off. I own UB.

dayal   :  on the charts, hpcl presents the case of hoping against hope...despite adverse decision, cotrary to my expectation of it coming to square one, tis regained. somebody is playing with it? now i'm fed up with it since u are the word for me, pls guide should i exit?
Ramesh S Damani   :  It will underperform in the near future due to it being over owned, however it should not fall substantially. I own it also.

sudipto   :  sir what is your view on cement sector particularly gujarat ambuja
Ramesh S Damani   :  Prices are still low of cement.

skk   :  ramesh any call on india glycol/century enka/gujarat alkali
Ramesh S Damani   :  India Glycol is benefiting from some tax exemptions. Gujrat Alkali is doing well. Enka -- I have no view.

sanujkadavil   :  sir what is the business of ub holding real estate or beer.will you buy it 25 levels..and mcdowell have any holding in ub and ub holding ??????????.
Ramesh S Damani   :  Real estate in UB plus holdings in McDowell, Aventis etc. Mcdowell holds UB and Herbertsons.

anaamika   :  Sir,Motilal Oswal Sec has come out with 30 page analysis of CUMMINNS India.Have you looked into it?
Ramesh S Damani   :  No they have not sent me one yet.

anilsavai   :  Good evening, It was a pleasent expirience to meet you at IMC meeting yesterday. My Quary is that I have long position in F&O in HP(@415) & BP @ 340 . Please advise what should i do?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I think BP will do okay, HP may struggle because of over ownership.

anaamika   :  Sir,Second tear Auto ancilliary stocks like Wheels India,Sundaram Brakes,Laxmi Auto Comp,Sono Koya,ZF Steering,Rane Group shares all look very intresting. They are all ready to unlock its values in coming times.Have you looked into any one other than Laxmi Auto?
Ramesh S Damani   :  To be honest I have not. It's not a sector that i have a deep knowledge about.

ganesh   :  dear sir, please your comment on low cost but value pick at this moment.
Ramesh S Damani   :  Sundaram Finance, trades in the NSE at 140. I own it.

nriinv   :  Now the cap on NRE deposits (LIBOR) been removed, dont you think this is another bigger trigger for the stock market.
Ramesh S Damani   :  That is a possibility.

RDH   :  Sir last week - you were of the view that the Supreme court would not stall the HPCL disinvestment because it cannot take on Executive powers. What do you think went wrong. What do you mean when you say HPCL is overowned?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I did say that. It is in the budget and I think the Supreme Court has interpreted the law very narrowly and not in the spirit.

Ahmedabadguy   :  Sir CMIE report suggests good monsoon giving GDP a ggod rise..DO you see stocks like GATI will finally deliver now????
Ramesh S Damani   :  It's at a market cap of 32 crs and yield of 5%. You tell me.

keralaguy   :  sir zodiac has reserves of over 45 crores of capital of 3.5 crores.they need some capex for thir expansion for 2005.any possibility of a bonus issue
Ramesh S Damani   :  I have no news on that but it is important that they improve the profits first.

rekha   :  Has the fizzle gone from the steelsector?
Ramesh S Damani   :  No

AnandBinani   :  Sir now SC has given its verdict on HPCL that, Do u think if it will come in the Parliament (both houses) , will it pass the test? I think Mr. Shourrie is trying his best but LUCK is not with him?
Ramesh S Damani   :  It is unlikely to come to Parliament before the elections. HPCL seems dead in terms of divestment.

anaamika   :  Sir,I have been watching Macmillan since last few sessions.Volumes have picked up & the script seems to be in accumalation phase. But by whom? Most of the funds have not yet added it in their portfolio. Is it accumalated by general public or by high net worth investors. What is your gut feeling?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I would not know about that.

ganesh   :  dear sir my friend is telling that we are heading towards new bull orbit. is it correct? if so what is your view please.
Ramesh S Damani   :  The market seems to be suggesting that. Look at today's action.

SINGARAJTR   :  Holding MC and MAC.Want to gift my daughter-just one year old.Is my choise right to delever over very long term-say 10 to 15 years?.
Ramesh S Damani   :  I hope and pray that they would work out. I hold MCc in my HUF a/c.

vikas1   :  Any new news on Tat Infotech and Hponeywell. Would you still not average Honeywell. Is Tata info better bet than Honeywell
Ramesh S Damani   :  I own both. I think Tata Infotech has made a dramatic turnaround. Tata Honey is still facing some problems in its old economy business.

investorinc   :  GAIL - YOUR VIEWS SIR
Ramesh S Damani   :  Bullish

nriinv   :  A hypothetical question MR. DamaniIf all things go well for the next 5 years we acheive growth of 8%,etc etc. what do you think should the Sensex at?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I think we would all be very rich and happy. Time to think of Sensex 10,000 then. That would be just great news.

vikas1   :  Do you feel Macmillan could be multi bagger in long run., if yes, Have u fixed any target to exit or u would like to review every quarter
Ramesh S Damani   :  Review every quarter, Long term strategy is in place however, concerns remain about growth.

mumbaibear   :  sir gati trading 10 p-e.it has no tangible assets.salance sheet shoein g some 50crore debt.how can they repay without improving their eps.they are producing only 2crors yearly...then how can you say buy on it
Ramesh S Damani   :  As GDP grows freight cargo will increase. Margins will expand. Look at the market cap and yield. Look at how some stocks are valued today and valued just a few years ago.

Ahmedabadguy   :  Sir My core holding is Macmilan,Mcdowell,Indian Rayon,Nicholas Piramal,EsselPackaging&Hind. Const.Co..Sir your thoughts on each script fi you can in term of strong market outperformance....
Ramesh S Damani   :  It is hard to time markets. I recommended BEL at 50beml at 18. Stocks didn't go anywhere. Today they are being strongly recommended. What makes you money is conviction. If you want to see prices everyday it is hard to make money. That is my experience

vikas1   :  Hoe does GAIL and IPCL looks over long run
Ramesh S Damani   :  Both look okay. Thanks for joining

ganesh   :  dear sir like bel @50,beml @18 what is today?please please because it is for tomorrow.
Ramesh S Damani   :  Read the transcripts. My views are clear. On a trading bet take a look at HTMT. I am trading in it. Thanks and bye.

anaamika   :  Sir, In 1996 I had bought 1000 shares of Transgene Biotech @ Rs 2.50/share.It has moved upto Rs 86/- & no one seems to know why.Any idea?
Ramesh S Damani   :  Sorry no idea

mumbaibear   :  sir you views about bel, beml was good ..but do you still believing rajastan syntex, mcdowell, zodiac deliver the same performance
Ramesh S Damani   :  Raj Syntex is a small stock not with that kind of potential. However, Zodiac and McDowell are great conviction bets. I own all 3.

ashah   :  Sir conviction is very much required quality in one to make money in this market..One of my uncle always inquire about his few scripts to deep knowledgable guys like you ( who are proven success in this market despite ups and downs)to find if any good or bad develo. in them..a good stratagy to follow???
Ramesh S Damani   :  I agree with him. Good luck. Develop patience and conviction.
