Questions P R Kumaramangalam did not answer

K (Wed Apr 29 1998 5:19 IST)
Hi everyone:-)

butthree (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:19 IST)
Hello Mr. RK... My question to you is what is the main reason to quit cong(i)? renewed ideals? how do you like your new politicial life so far?

OKennedy (Wed Apr 29 1998 6:13 IST)
Your comments on the Tehri Dam project in the Narmada Valley have generated -- and will continue to generate -- indignation and ire, not to mention disbelief and dismay among environmentalists, regardless of national origin. How do you justify disrupting an eco-system that is thousands of years old? Is it imperative that this project goes ahead? Is the building of this dam idispensable to India's meeting her power needs?

mala (Wed Apr 29 1998 6:39 IST)
Do you think you will return to the congress party if Sonia Gandhi invites you? Many people think she will try to get you back.

krishnamurti (Wed Apr 29 1998 6:49 IST)
Sir, how do you see yourself following your revered father's legacy? Will you be able to fulfil is cherised socialist ideals? Currently what is your involvement in the representation of backward people and deprived classes?

chater (Wed Apr 29 1998 7:43 IST)
Sir, Why did you quit Congress? Would you return to Congress once Bjp is thrown out of power or if sonia invites you to the congress?

Nagesh (Wed Apr 29 1998 7:45 IST)
Dear Ranga: Are you happy with your present life and times in the saffron party?

GitainNewYork (Wed Apr 29 1998 7:51 IST)
Many leading thinkers and India-lovers in the west view Sonia Gandhi's coronation as Congress party president as an act of startling sycophancy, and the result of a great nation's inability to dissociate itself from its history of colonial subservience. The question asked repeatedly is: In a nation with some of the most brilliant minds in the world, and some of the most shrewd and capable leaders and adminstrators, why is it that only a Gandhi, especially one who is a greenhorn in the field of real politics, is the only likely candidate to head its oldest party? And possibly become India's Prime Minister? Is o alternative leadership available? Will India ever be able to shake herself out of colonial inferiority? Would the Italians be chasing Priyanka Gandhi to run for one of the highest offices in their country? Not a chance!

Roger Nellis (Wed Apr 29 1998 7:53 IST)
Mr Power Minister: Every new minister for power in India starts with many promises, but people like me who are interested in India's power sector are not impressed. We are interested in the end results... Can we expect something substantial from you Sir?

malathy (Wed Apr 29 1998 7:59 IST)
Hello Sir, We are waiting for your answers

Sands (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:2 IST)

Sheila (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:9 IST)
Hello Mr KUmarmangalam: ARe so power hungry that you bumped off your traditional Congress party to become power minister?

GK (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:9 IST)

Hello Mr. RK... My question to you is what is the main reason to quit cong(i)? renewed ideals? how do you like your new politicial life so far

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:22 IST)
Princess: Now that you are out of the Congress party, perhaps you can throw some light: is it normal practice for the ruling party to raise funds through kickbacks in defence and other deals?

Kam Bijlee (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:23 IST)
Rangaji: Why was the Enron project in Kannur scrapped? Is there no way your ministry can ensure that the state govts don't fiddle around with power projects, by playing politics?

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:25 IST)
You are a very very recent convert to the BJP ranks. So what was it about you that led Vajpayee to make you a cabinet minister, over the heads of BJP veterans from TN? Do you think the local BJP back home is happy about you?

oltsp (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:26 IST)
Sir, Do you think that you can meet your time table by dismissing DMK govt, in TN, which is unnecessary at present? Why you are playing to the tune of Jayalalitha ?

Kailash (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:26 IST)
Mr Minister, Why has India fallen short of capacity addition and how will you make that up?

malathy (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:27 IST)
Good Evening Mr KumaraMangalam. How R U?. Why Did you quit Congress?

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:28 IST)
Good evening Mr Kumaramangalam, what is your view on Sonia heading the Congress party? Your contemporary, Mani Shankar Aiyar, has returned to that party, where do you stand vis-a-vis her?

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:28 IST)
Now that you are out of the Congress party, perhaps you can throw some light: is it normal practice for the ruling party to raise funds through kickbacks in defence and other deals?

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:30 IST)
Do you agree that Jayalalitha's hysteria is the biggest threat before your government, that this government's main enemy is within, and not without?

Sandy (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:32 IST)
Mr.Minister .. u were a leftist even in the congress .. why the decision to move over to BJP ?

Susanna Rao (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:34 IST)
Good evening Mr Kumaramangalam: There is such speculation about your government, ever since Mr Vajpayee took the helms all he's been wrapped up is in the Jayalalitha demand slip, which has already indicated your being on a sticky wicket. How long do you think you are going to last like this?

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:35 IST)
Mr Minister, I have posted six questions, can you please turn your gaze in my direction please???

priya (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:35 IST)
What's going on? We seem to be stuck for good and all?

kiran (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:36 IST)

GITANYC (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:37 IST)

What happens if the Jaya tantrum pulls the plug on the Shri Ram party? What will happen to Jai Hind?

electric blue (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:40 IST)
Sir, You had a series of differences with P V Narasimha Rao? Can you tell us what they were? And why did you take so long to quit the party?

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:40 IST)
The light has gone out of our lives...

SANDY (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:40 IST)
Princess : Ha ha ... u were too fast for our minister

Susanna Rao (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:41 IST)
Mr Kumaramangalam: What opportunities has the BJP giving you to serve the nation, which the Congress couldn't? Is serving the people equivalent to a portfolio?

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:43 IST)
Thank you Mr Minister *doing a namaskaram* But you have left out the meat of my question, which is if you see yourself returning to the original party once such a revolution as you mention takes place

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:43 IST)
Sandy: Perhaps I was, but now Ranga is moving like greased lightning *grin*

electric blue (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:44 IST)

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:45 IST)
Do you agree that Jayalalitha's hysteria is the biggest threat before your government, that this government's main enemy is within, and not without?

GITANYC (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:47 IST)
I asked you a rather lengthy series of questions on colonial subservience in India? Could you please take a look at it? I'd really appreciate your views -- would sort out some very important issues for me from a leader of your stature. And acumen

electric blue (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:48 IST)
SIR, rediff recently carried articles that the prime minister plans to monitor all projects of 1 billion or more? do you think this will help? why are projects so delayed in India?

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:48 IST)
Arun: Did you see that drama over the Gowda Patil's offer to declare his assets and the BJP leadership preventing him from doing so? Now why would the BJP, a 'clean' party, be afraid of something so welcome as that? Btw, I hope I got that fellar's name right???

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:51 IST)
Mr Minister: Do you have a vision for the country that you are sworn to serve? What is it? How do you aim to achieve that? You said you entered public life 29 years, almost a generation, ago, how close have you come to this vision in this time? How many of our leaders have a vision before them, you think? We all know that Rajiv Gandhi had one, but what about his successors, till Vajpayee? Has this question exercised your mind ever?

Malathi (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:52 IST)
It seems like Sandy is right next to our Minister!!! A give away, no?

anjali de delhi (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:52 IST)

anjali de delhi (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:54 IST)
WHAT? AND WHAT IS YOUR MINISTRY DOING ABOUT IT? OR IS IT IN TYPICAL POLITICIAN STYLE PASSING THE BUCK TO THE POLICE AND LAW AND ORDER DEPARTMENT? SHAME!

Ramamurthy (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:55 IST)
Please accept my congratulations. Do you think there is a BRIGHT future for Indian Industry in the current POWER scenario.

Susanna Rao (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:56 IST)
Since we are talking about power: what about the Bihar and UP, especially Bihar. The condition there is deplorable. Do you know that most places just get electricity for less than eight hours? what will you do for them, Mr Kumaramangalam?

Ramamurthy (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:56 IST)
I meant both Electric & Political POWER

electric blue (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:56 IST)
sir, the pm has been talking of empowering the people. I do hope you are working on it.

Kam Bijlee (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:56 IST)
The CAG has found that the Maharashtra government's claims that it got a better deal from Enron in the revised PPA is crap. As a member of the BJP, what do you think were the motives that forced your state govt to accept such a deal fron Enron?

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:57 IST)
Mr Minister, if absolute power corrupts absolutely, what does the power portfolio do??? *grin*

Ramamurthy (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:57 IST)
Today Amma has challenged at Madras that if Karunanidhi belives in the opinion polls, then let him dissolve the assembly and face elections. In such case what do u think will happen

Kamakshi Subramaniam (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:57 IST)
I understand that several power projects in India have been held up because of governmental apathy. Do you have a plan to ensure that these projects get back on stream?

Malathi (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:58 IST)
Sir, there is a deep feeling in TAMILNADU THAT YOU CARE MORE OR Delhi than Tamilnadu. Nobody says that you should not feel Indian first specially since youare a national leader, but tamilians feel that your presence in Tamilnadu has been less, especially when compared to somebody like Chidambaram.

Princess (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:58 IST)
Well, I think someone should tell the hon'ble minister that slow and steady does not win the race at least in this chatroom...

Ramamurthy (Wed Apr 29 1998 8:59 IST)
Is there any day when our power situation will be as good as developed nations. Does the government have any plans atleast for this.

Balu (Wed Apr 29 1998 9:0 IST)
Mr. Minister : I have a question for you. I would like to know the main problem the people facing is the shortage of power, as the demand is more and the supply is less. I would like to know the steps taken to generate power. Are we planning to generate power thru the various water falls in the northern part of the country?

Kam Bijlee (Wed Apr 29 1998 9:0 IST)
RANGA: HOW CAN YOU LEAVE?

Kamakshi Subramaniam (Wed Apr 29 1998 9:0 IST)
MANTRI MAHODAY: ANDHER MEIN MAT CHODO HUMEN!

arrr (Wed Apr 29 1998 9:2 IST)
Hi everybody, You all made our honarable minister nervous, so he quits early, Good Job. Kudos to you all !.

Malathi (Wed Apr 29 1998 9:2 IST)
I meant "care mor FOR Delhi." Sorry.

Urmila (Wed Apr 29 1998 11:50 IST)
Dear Mr K: It's too bad you ditched all of us avid fans in the chat room, just like that. We had higher expecatios of you if only because we know you like the net. Please come back and chat in the future. We will be looking forward to that occasion.
