The Miheer Mafatlal Chat

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:41:11 1996 IST):

Mr. Trotman do you mean the preposterous theory that God exist or that he would deign to talk to mere mortals ???

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:41:43 1996 IST):

OK, cyberman, first I'm not defending myself

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:41:51 1996 IST):

I'm just stating facts

coco (Wed Oct 23 22:41:57 1996 IST):

Miheer:people who stay with Macs today are like vintage car collectors what?

cyberman (Wed Oct 23 22:42:08 1996 IST):

Miheer: How can you say that? can you elobrate your point?

Mayank (Wed Oct 23 22:42:10 1996 IST):

Miheer : *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap*

Mac The Knife (Wed Oct 23 22:42:37 1996 IST):

MAYANK

, JUST PICK UP SOME HTML CODING.

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:42:39 1996 IST):

abacus, scroll back, i already finished with Boris

Bill Trotman (Wed Oct 23 22:42:59 1996 IST):

Mr Mafatlal, your preposterous thesis that the Mac is superior to the PC. It makes me want to puke just as I puked over your silly joke. Were you always so infantile?

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:43:26 1996 IST):

thank you, Mayank

Bill Trotman (Wed Oct 23 22:43:30 1996 IST):

Even Guy Kawasaki won't go that far...

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:44:03 1996 IST):

cyberman, most sites (the ones surveyed are the more popular ones like Yahoo) show that 40% of the browsers are using Macs

baghdadi (Wed Oct 23 22:44:08 1996 IST):

Is Apple computers still be around in 2000 ad?

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:44:29 1996 IST):

considering that the Mac market share is only 10% I would say that is a very impressive figure

netman (Wed Oct 23 22:44:36 1996 IST):

ah ! miheer lets get some techno man it seems RISC stands for reduced instruction set computing but the problem is Mac has the highest set of computing in comparison to Intel 586, comment?

baghdadi (Wed Oct 23 22:45:24 1996 IST):

Is Apple computers still be around in 2000 ad?

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:45:31 1996 IST):

baghdadi, its not important if Apple survives or not the Macintosh technologies must survive if we are not to be submerged in boredom

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:46:09 1996 IST):

and besides Bill Gates will never let apple go under - if he did then who would Micro$oft copy ???

Bill Trotman (Wed Oct 23 22:46:37 1996 IST):

I understand that you are in the forefront of the Internet movement in India. With such primitive ideas and such retrogade views, I find that amazing.

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:46:44 1996 IST):

netman, the Mac is already on RISC while the PC is not

netman (Wed Oct 23 22:47:41 1996 IST):

ah! man u ain't ans to my Q

cyberman (Wed Oct 23 22:47:55 1996 IST):

Miheer: Konwing the fact that Intel-pc's are comparatively cheaper than the mac's, then how can you say that they will conquer the net-world?

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:48:20 1996 IST):

A company (I cannot recall the name right now) has already introduce greater than 500 MHz PowerPC processor running MacOS

Mayank (Wed Oct 23 22:48:39 1996 IST):

*just back from a call* .... Wow this is serious stuff ... did I miss something ?? Mihir was telling us a joke when I left :)

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:49:28 1996 IST):

Mr. Trotman, the fact that about 40% of the Web Servers in the world today are based on the MacOS is testimony to the fact that what I say is not retrograde but the future

abacus (Wed Oct 23 22:50:04 1996 IST):

It's a clique, isn't it Miheer? Your type of people just like to be high-falutin in life. Like using jargon, for example! Just so that you can impress the ordinary man and so that he does not understand you. Saves you hazaar times, doesn't it, especially when you make all those mistakes

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:50:04 1996 IST):

the fact remains that the Mac since its inception was designed to be a "network" computer and it shows

Bill Trotman (Wed Oct 23 22:50:10 1996 IST):

Mr Mafatlal, Apple is brain dead. The Mac can't do anything anymore. Good night!

netman (Wed Oct 23 22:50:43 1996 IST):

Are there going to be net applications developed for the mac platform?? I think Microsoft has already won the race. Comment....

coco (Wed Oct 23 22:50:53 1996 IST):

Here are reasons to avoid the Mac: -Somebody will Apple and abandon support for Mac -Apple will become PC compatible -Mac will become a super niche product like Cray, CPM etc What you say,Miheer?

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:51:02 1996 IST):

cyberman, the fact today is that since about 3 years a Mac is clearly cheaper than a comparably configured PC

Mac The Knife (Wed Oct 23 22:51:17 1996 IST):

MIHEER, EVEN IF WE GRANT THAT MAC IS A SUPERIOR MACHINE, IT'S CONTRIBUTION TO THE PC REVOLUTION TODAY IS ZILCH. WITH ITS AMAZING PRICE HOW CAN IT EVER PROLIFERATE HOMES. LET'S FORGET IT. SOMETHING AFFORDABLE ON THE DESKTOP IS BETTER THAN NONE.

Lisa (Wed Oct 23 22:51:27 1996 IST):

Miheer: What do u think is the future of India as far as the Net goes?

Mayank (Wed Oct 23 22:51:29 1996 IST):

Miheer : what are your views about web access in India ... when do you think it will really be cheap and popular ?

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:51:50 1996 IST):

these BTW are not my theories but studies done by well-know information research companies

Sadi (Wed Oct 23 22:52:25 1996 IST):

Miheer -- I agree. Thanks to Mac, I just upgraded connect speeds for free yesterday.

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:52:50 1996 IST):

mac the knife, I've already addressed your point

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:53:25 1996 IST):

Lisa, the 'Net is here to stay and with the progressive attitude of Mr. B. K. Syngal of VSNL the proliferation should be rapid

cyberman (Wed Oct 23 22:53:45 1996 IST):

Miheer: Can you elobrate your point how mac is cheaper?

Mayank (Wed Oct 23 22:53:49 1996 IST):

Lisa : Wow ... we asked the same question ? *smile*

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:54:12 1996 IST):

Realising that VSNL cannot reach every nook and cranny of India

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:54:53 1996 IST):

they are already working on things like franchising and allowing access over I-NET (VSNL picks up the I-NET charges)

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:56:43 1996 IST):

the first such franchise is already functional in Ahmedabad

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:57:39 1996 IST):

cyberman, the Mac comes with a lot of things standard that are not included with a PC. Apple does not sell a Mac with lessthan 16MB e.g.

netman (Wed Oct 23 22:58:00 1996 IST):

man we have serious problem here what do u think would be effect on thge mach world would b with the wall dividing the pc and intel collapsing with coming in of the platform independent stuffs like java & activeX

cyberman (Wed Oct 23 22:58:23 1996 IST):

Miheer: Who is the franchise for VSNL in Ahmedabad?

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:58:39 1996 IST):

SCSI, CD-quality stereo sound, microphone, speakers, etc. are all standard features, ifyou add all the things that a Mac comes with and then put the same into a PC you'll see what I mean

LionKing (Wed Oct 23 22:59:32 1996 IST):

Miheer.. are you still there ?

Sadi (Wed Oct 23 22:59:33 1996 IST):

Hey, don't forget the cost of the time taken to learn the OS, and get comfortable with the computer. There's a REAL difference between platforms on that one front alone.

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 22:59:41 1996 IST):

cyberman, the its a division/subsidiary of Cadilla Laboratories - node wient live on Oct 2

baghdadi (Wed Oct 23 23:00:14 1996 IST):

miheer : which mac do you have?

Mayank (Wed Oct 23 23:00:36 1996 IST):

Miheer : Are you on a Mac right now ?? *curious*

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 23:00:52 1996 IST):

Right, Sadi, e.g. an Intel spokesman recently said that the average cost of supporting the PCs in Intel's offices is $8,000 per year, he further stated that this figure is no different than all the other corporates in the western world

cyberman (Wed Oct 23 23:01:22 1996 IST):

Miheer: But can you say that a mac having same configuration as an Intel-pc in India costs cheaper?

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 23:01:54 1996 IST):

baghdadi, I have multiple Macs :-) Mayank, right now I'm not on a Mac - I'm in the Rediff office and they refused to allow me to connect up my PowerBook to their network :-(

Mac The Knife (Wed Oct 23 23:02:03 1996 IST):

MIHEER, if Mac is really affordable, as u claim it is how come there it is hard to come by people who use them. most offices i go to all use PCs. How come?? can u answer that??? huh??

baghdadi (Wed Oct 23 23:02:15 1996 IST):

miheer : which mac do you have?

netman (Wed Oct 23 23:02:38 1996 IST):

man there r other guys out here out here y have not answered my Q yet

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 23:02:48 1996 IST):

I have no prejudices - after all computers are just a tool and I'll use any computer if its gets my job done - its just that I'd prefer to use a Mac and avoid the hassle of fiddling with a PC - I find that I get more work done that way :-)

Miheer (Wed Oct 23 23:03:58 1996 IST):

Of course, for the record. I hate all desktop systems - they are just to flaky to satisfy me. What I really "love" is the HP 3000 systems running MPE

Sadi (Wed Oct 23 23:04:03 1996 IST):

Cyberman, as someone who recently moved to Mac from PC, let me answer your question. Yes, a Mac is significantly cheaper, if you vector in the extras you don't need to buy.
