Mike Symons (Thu Oct 24 22:45:23 1996 IST):

How come Hillary and Chelsea came to Tiger Tops? Did you book them in?

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 22:45:51 1996 IST):

Vaihayasi Daniel (Thu Oct 24 22:47:20 1996 IST):

Welcome Kersi on our travel chat. Can you tell us why Tiger Tops is so different from other hotels in India and Nepal.

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 22:49:07 1996 IST):

Mike Symons: We recieved thier booking about a month and a half in advance from our San Fransisco office. There have been many VIP's from the White House including Mr and Mrs Jimmy Carter and Mr & Mrs Gerald Ford and Mr & Mrs Henry Kissinger along with a lot of members from the British Royal family . No, not me but they were booked directly throught the SFO office .

Nikhil Lakshman, (Thu Oct 24 22:49:57 1996 IST):

Good to have you, Haysi on the Chat. Folks, Vaihayasi Daniel is the Travel Editor at Rediff On The NeT. If you have any ideas and suggestions about making Rediff Travel an even better site, please write to her at travel@www.rediff.co.in

Ram Sinha (Thu Oct 24 22:52:05 1996 IST):

Kersiji, aapp please uttar jaldi dejiye!

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 22:52:42 1996 IST):

Vahaysi and Ram Sinha: Tiger Tops was the first lodge in the Chitwan national park it was original idea of Mr Jim Edwards , chairman and CEO, who once visited India and Nepal about 35 years ago and it was love at first sight when he bought over Tiger Tops from a Texan billionare and changed the entire concept of wildlife preservation and eco friendly tourism in Nepal.(more)

Sakhi (Thu Oct 24 22:52:52 1996 IST):

Kersi: Are you still there? You haven't answered the question about the going rate for Tiger Tops and how one can get a good discount? :-)

Vaihayasi Daniel (Thu Oct 24 22:53:01 1996 IST):

I have had a chance to visit the Tiger Tops resort in Ladakh and it was a wonderful experience. Kersi, why don't you describe to our readers why Ladakh, and the location of Tiger Tops, is so unique?

Mike Symons (Thu Oct 24 22:53:23 1996 IST):

Thanks, Mr Dubash. What I want to know from you is how expensive is it for someone like me who makes $ 50,000 a year to travel to the Himalyas? Can I have a holiday at Tiger Tops, for $ 8,000?

Sakhi (Thu Oct 24 22:55:38 1996 IST):

Ms Daniel, since you've been to Tiger Tops, why don't you tell us a little bit about the place? Kersi could give us the technical details later.

Rick S Gallen (Thu Oct 24 22:55:47 1996 IST):

Hello everyone. Mr Dubash, it's a pleasure to meet you. In cyberspace. What in your opinion should be the ideal itinerary for a tourist -- not a backpacking one, mind you -- but someone who is on a business trip to Delhi and has a couple of days to spare in Nepal and the Himalayas.

no time to stand & stare (Thu Oct 24 22:56:18 1996 IST):

hey, answer my query. i really haven't got much time, but more time to sit and listen

Ram Sinha (Thu Oct 24 22:56:47 1996 IST):

I bet the mood at TT is biased towards the whites. I bet we Indians will feel discriminated there. How many Indians visit Tiger Tops every year?

no time to stand & stare (Thu Oct 24 22:57:37 1996 IST):

what's the bloody price for tiger tops, for lion's sake

Sakhi (Thu Oct 24 22:57:44 1996 IST):

Kersi? Yoo hoo... are you still around?

Mike Symons (Thu Oct 24 22:57:51 1996 IST):

What is about Tiger Tops that draws people like our First Families? And do they mostly come to Nepal?

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 22:58:17 1996 IST):

Tiger Tops Nepal, only has 25 double rooms and hence at any given time can accomodate only 50 clients, hence it is well known for the personalised service it gives to all its clients. The other thing that makes Tiger Tops unusual is that it is far better than any 5 star deluxe hotel anywhere else in the world as there is electricity and they yet provide you with ice cubes at the Tiger Tops bar through refrigrators that run on kerosene, they have solar heating system for hot water showers, candle light dinner , irons which run on charcoal and of course not forgetting the delicious meals which are served daily. This makes Tiger Tops different from the other lodges and hotels in the world, and the most imp is that the guests go on elephant safaris in search of wild life rather than the wild life coming across to water holes in the African or other India lodges.

Sakhi (Thu Oct 24 22:59:48 1996 IST):

Whew! I thought you had gotten lost somewhere!

Mike Symons (Thu Oct 24 23:00:21 1996 IST):

Some pitch, Mr D. Is Ladakh open to foreigners or is it like some parts of India -- out of bounds for foreigners, suspicious and otherwise!

Sakhi (Thu Oct 24 23:00:57 1996 IST):

Ms Daniel: I wish you would still share your personal experience at Tiger Tops with us. What was it that you best liked about the place?

no time to stand & stare (Thu Oct 24 23:01:05 1996 IST):

What's the BLOODY price for tiger tops, for lion's sake?

Sakhi (Thu Oct 24 23:01:26 1996 IST):

Kersi: Is there a long waiting list for Tiger Tops?
