Questions John Dayal Didn't Answer

Abhimanyu (Fri Oct 22 1999 4:47 IST)
Hi, Dayal

antichrist (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:24 IST)
Do you think it was right on part of the international community (namely the UN) to separate people of East Timor who are different from Indonesians, only in respect of religion they follow?

Meher (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:26 IST)
Mr Dayal why is it important for you to convert people into Christians from their current faith? Do you believe Christianity is the best of all religions?

antichrist (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:28 IST)
I say, India is a secular country because it has a Hindu majority. Hinduism has always respected different thoughts and has encouraged them. The same cannot be said about your religion. Isn't that right??

antichrist (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:31 IST)
You ridiculed us Hindus to be idolatrous (sp??) yet in every church there is a statue of Christ spread-eagled. Isn't that idol-worshipping?

John Paul (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:33 IST)
Antichrist... I think the Pope should apologise for the Christian excesses in Goa and elsewhere, provided the Shankaracharyas apologise for the caste system and untouchability.

antichrist (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:45 IST)
Mr. John Dayal, so you're saying that asking your head honcho to acknowledge past mistakes in a coercion on your community.. eh ?

antichrist (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:48 IST)
Mr John Dayal, you lure illiterate/uneducated and mostly oppressed to your religion, saying, there are no castes in Christianity. Yet you spout a term, Dalit Christian...

John Paul (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:48 IST)
But Mr Dayal, why didn't the Pope visit India all these years?

sandeep (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:49 IST)
China, Sri Lanka, Iraq etc rejected Pope's visit. Why did India alone accept that?

swappy (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:50 IST)
What are u'r views on "conversion of poor people into Christianity"

John Paul (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:50 IST)
Mr Dayal, I too am keen to know your reaction to the Dalit Christian question. Do you agree with this terminology? I think it's unchristian!

Ambadi (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:50 IST)
Christians have some sort of understanding with naxals in AP, Northeast etc. Isn't it?

Durga (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:53 IST)
Come now, Dayalji, by that token the Wadhwa Commission found that the Bajrang Dal was not involved in the Staines murders. We cannot give too much credibility to these commissions. Point is, priests do proselytise and this causes tensions in some areas. Do you or don't you agree with this? Unless you do, there can be no meeting ground and discussion.

Hitman (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:55 IST)
Mr Dayal, will the Pope ever go to Nepal, the only Hindu nation in the world?

antichrist (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:56 IST)
Can you give me more information about the Jubilee 2000 initiative by the church worldwide. From what I know of it, it sounds ominous for us Hindus.

Robin (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:56 IST)
Has there ever been a black Pope, Mr Dayal? (I'm told never). When can we expect to see one. Isn't Church practising racism that way?

Peacebewithyou (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:57 IST)
Good evening, sir! Can you give us some details of the Pope's programmes in India? Will he be also coming to Nagaland?

Hari (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:57 IST)
Dear Dayal: What is this hue and cry by the VHP about Goa Inquisition?

Geez Ass (Fri Oct 22 1999 6:59 IST)
Do you approve of editors as activists? Some time back The Illustrated Weekly, ran a cover story with Arun Shourie and M J Akbar on the cover. You complete the trio, is it?

karunan (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:0 IST)
Mr Dayal: Don't you think you are a good politician? Why don't you enter politics on this so-called anti-Christian violence wave and get voted to Parliament and then argue for your brethren in the country?

Tom (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:1 IST)
Mr Dayal, can any one enter the Holy mass in Delhi of Pope. What time is it, and where is it being held. Pl give details.

Geez Ass (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:3 IST)
Mercy, Karuna, Dayal... Hmmm, one lot of a pious, peace-loving souls, eh? No offence meant, sir. Just pulling your Catholic leg!

antichrist (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:3 IST)
Someone mentioned Arun Shourie's name in here. Have you read his article about how four books differ in account of Jesus's last days of life and they contradict each other too. And yet church derive messages that suits them from this distorted works of art ???

Gosh (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:5 IST)
Why is the Church not allowing contraception? Here in west everyone uses all these. So there is no meaning to what Vatican says. Mr Dayal?

swappy (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:6 IST)
Are u there, John ?

Churchy (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:8 IST)
John, I read here in Rediff that some Hindu leaders have welcomed Pope. Who are they? And who are those opposing?

r stamets (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:8 IST)
I hope the Pope's visit offers him the chance to see both good servants of Christ and India, such as Mr. Dayal, and also the very real dangers the people of all faiths in India face from these violent, demented, un-Hindu and anti-Indian attacks on the rights of all Indians. It's hard to see how hacking up a Muslim trader or raping a nun will attract converts to Hinduism.

Geez Ass (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:10 IST)
Whatever anyone says, a Catholic born in Italy and educated in the UK should never be allowed to become PM of Hindustan as in *Hindu*stan. Hindustan is for *Hindus*. Agree, Johan Dayalu Maharaj Patrakar?

swappy (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:11 IST)
John Travolta u didn't answer me, ha

Geez Ass (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:13 IST)
I miss Mother Teresa's physical presence and images of her in the media. The pictures themselves used to soothe the mind. How come we don't hear anything about her successor?

holy ghost (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:13 IST)
The fact remains, Mr Dayal, that in areas like Kerala the church has become philistine. This leads to the basic question: Will those priests and nuns working so selflessly -- which I concede is true -- take on the established church, which even a child will tell u has long sold its soul to mammon? Have Christian advocates in India genuinely explored the possibilities of an indigenous version of liberation theology? Has, or will, the established church ever accept the likes of Sebastian Kappen, to take just one name?

champagne (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:13 IST)
Mr Dayal, how is the health of the pope? He is old and ailing... Do u think he's strong enough to handle these trips across the world?

Daddoo (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:14 IST)
Mr Dayal, what is this Vatican II. And do you accept Hinduism and Islam and other religions as equal?

Geez Ass (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:15 IST)
When was Pope's visit to India confirmed? I see a design behind it. Was it confirmed only after some allegedly mischievous, zealot Christians started getting killed in revivalist India?

Megha (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:15 IST)
Dayalji, how does conversion help you in aiding people? And what is more important, conversion or helping people?

antichrist (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:15 IST)
You hold the Parivar responsible for Staines murder even though there's no evidence whatsoever. Yet you are not ready to simply apologize for the organized conquests for which there's ample evidence (and of course the progeny from which) that still exists ...

Manisha G (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:17 IST)
Mr Dayal what is the Pope's itinerary like when he visits India and who all will be coming with him?

antichrist (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:17 IST)
You guys are trumpeting your work amongst the downtrodden. Have you even heard about the organizations belonging to Parivar like the 'Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram', etc? The main reason you haven't heard is because of partisan media

Geez Ass (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:19 IST)
John DAYALU: But one thing is for sure. All these evangelists like Dinakaran and his son who appear on regional TV channels in south India make money by promising miracles to the gullible. If Pope meets with them, my faith in Christianity will dissipate.

Geez Ass (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:23 IST)
ha ha ha: JAAN DAYALU, stop addressing the genial, elderly, grandfatherly Pope as The Holy Father. My foot! Achcha tell me, why don't you guys have the guts to go into Pakistan, Afghanistan and Gulf and preach? But when it comes to India, you talk big.

Peacebewithyou (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:23 IST)
That's very sad, sir. He should have visited the north-east too. There are so many Christians here. Will the Pope's functions be at least televised?

Gaurang (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:26 IST)
Mr. Dayal: Do you agree that all religions are valid and Christianity is not superior? Can you categorically say that Christianity is NOT the only way to salvation? Do you condemn the duplicitous methods of missionaries in converting tribal people? If you are so concerned about "empowering" people, you should be in political field. And how about empowering those Dalit Christians in the south who have separate pews in churches? Please answer.

antichrist (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:29 IST)
John Dayal, you mean the PM calls on your pope? Is that the protocol? Shouldn't the pope fix an appointment with the PM and go to meet him?

Peacebewithyou (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:32 IST)
Thank you sir. And peace be with you too.

phaedrus (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:34 IST)
Mr Dayal, what's ur view points on abortion?

Gaurang (Fri Oct 22 1999 7:37 IST)
Mr. Dayal I do not see much output from you. What is happening? Please answer my previous questions. Thanks.
