Questions Brajesh Mishra did not answer

RAJESH (Thu Aug 20 1998 5:30 IST)
SIR, 1.I would like to know what is happening about the Power sector in India? 2. And appoint Officers who have a good background in certain sectors and who can develop the country in all possible sectors like:Gas, Power, Transport etc, and you should also take advice from the Retired civil servants.Being in the position you are i am sure, you can give the best advice to the Prime Minister. Thank you very much. Have a nice day! Rajesh

Palash Kumar (Thu Aug 20 1998 7:12 IST)
Sir, Serious charges of accepting bribe for the transfer of Mr Bezbaruah have been levelled against the PMO. As the man who head the PMO, can you categorically deny that the charges are baseless or is the PMO going to conduct an inquiry? Secondly, can you also categorically deny that Mr Ashok Jain did not play any role via the PMO in the transfer of Mr Bezbaruah?

lovekesh (Thu Aug 20 1998 7:27 IST)
Sir, what is your comments on the media reports that Jaswant Singh proposed China trip was cancelled due to a leak from PMO?

Harry Truman (Thu Aug 20 1998 7:49 IST)
Mr Mishra: When the world is talking about the nuclear disarmament what was the reson for Indian to test the nukes?

Genieve Michel (Thu Aug 20 1998 7:56 IST)
Mr Mishra: If I am not mistaken India's nearly 40 per cent population is below the poverty line. Don't you think your government should have prioritised these things rather than testing nukes?

lovekesh (Thu Aug 20 1998 7:58 IST)
Sir, don't you think even India's stand on many international issues like Global disarmament are correct from years, but still our voice is not heard. Is it a faliure of our presentation or we are not strong enough economically or otherwise?

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 7:59 IST)
Nukes were tested to level the playing field against crafty neighbors and to create a deterent against first strike. Its got no relationship with the poverty - by not testing the nukes, we would appear weak and easy to be gobbled up. Poverty is a totally different issue to be handled separately.

Angela Hart (Thu Aug 20 1998 7:59 IST)
Good evening Mr Mishra: In your opinion, how would you term India's position in front of the international community?

Sumit Parekh (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:3 IST)
Mr Mishra: Congatulations on testing the nukes. AFter all our country has achieved something today.. I am proud to be an Indian..

Sumit Parekh (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:4 IST)
EVERY BODY: JAI SHRI RAM...

Hamir Thakur (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:7 IST)
USA has perspective plans for their country for a few thousand years. what about ours?

Mahan Krishnan (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:8 IST)
Mr Mishra, Thank you for coming. Why India is finding it so difficult to convince US to view it on par with China. Is it because US has less economic interest in India compared to China. I would also like to know whether we would have been better of in conducting the test after making sure that substantial western business interest is involved in India. Having lived in US and Europe for tha past 10 years, I have come to the conclusion that only protocol or interest to which west will respond is business and dollar. Is india taking any concrete steps in this regard.

Ketan (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:11 IST)
Mr.Brijesh Mishra, What do you think our future course of action will be to take the best possible advantage for the country from the people who after the test are proud to be Indians.

Anthony Balderstone (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:12 IST)
Why are Indian officials so upunctual? Delhi or DC, they are all the same.

Sunil K (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:13 IST)
Questions and questions --- but no answers !!!!

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:13 IST)
IST, Indian Stretchable Time,

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:13 IST)
unpunctual as usual....maybe they should work on that issue first.

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:15 IST)
People are not perishable, so they can wait is the attitude of Powers that be!!!

Angela Hart (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:16 IST)
Mr Mishra: Have you found yourself in a difficult situation in expressing India's position after the nuclear tests? On a one to one basis with world leaders, what kind of a reaction have you received from them?

Genieve Michel (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:17 IST)
Mr Mishra: Don't you think India has lost FIs confidence after the nuclear tests. A fact since all the credit rating agencies have downgraded India, isn't it?

Hamir Thakur (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:20 IST)
Continued enmity with India is must for the survival of Pak polity. But appears that some elements in India also do not want to end this gory affair as it is lucrative for their hidden designs for excample business is anti terrorist equipments or Bullet proofing etc. What is true?

Samuel Rohatyn (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:20 IST)
Ambassador Mishra: Thank you for your response. It has been 100 days since you conducted your nuclear tests. Do you think that the security situation has improved for your country, and, how?

Tina Brown (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:20 IST)
Mr Mishra: With Mr Mahajan daring AIADMK's Ms J Jayalalitha today, don't you think the two parties should part ways amicably now, rather than rancorously later?

Sunil K (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:22 IST)
Mr. Mishra : How do you rate BARC's role in the nuclear test ? good, very good, excellent, the only organisation which could have done it ?

Tina Brown (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:22 IST)
Mr Mishra, it is ironical, that the US embassies in Islamabad and Dacca are under threat, while in India they are not. Yet, the US continues to humour Pakistan over India. Is it a failure of your country's diplomacy all along, that the world's most powerful democracy is unable to recognise the potential of the world's largest?

Isabelle (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:23 IST)
Mr Mishra: During Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India was a leader of third world countries. And its a shame that today India has lost its credibility by testing nukes. NO third world country looks forward to India for help as it used to be in great Nehru and Tito era, isn't it?

ss (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:25 IST)
Mr Mishra, I have been involved in setting up an Indian subisdiary for a multinational. My question to you is a)What new initiatives BJP govt. is taking to promote FI in technology b) Why can't the govt. intervene between DOT and TRAI resolve the matter and go ahead with the new internet policy?

lovekesh (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:27 IST)
Sir, Can you please answer my previous question regarding: 1) Jaswant Singh's China trip 2) India's presentation in world fora

Nitin Nimkar (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:28 IST)
Dear Mr. Mishra, Even after splendid liberalisation why are we not moving with speed. Or is it that we still have the inluance of Socialism from previous era... Our liberlisation is only in IT what about in other Industries?

varun (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:28 IST)
The government is really trying to improve the economy/stand of the country but nobody is paying attention to the biggest threat within 'the population'. In fact there has been no government policies in this direction. What do u feel about this.

Tina Brown (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:30 IST)
Mr Mishra, I have two questions pending... Can you pay me some attention, sir?

Karthik Subbiah (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:30 IST)
Mr. Mishra, Would you please tell us about our PM's health?

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:30 IST)
Mr. Mishra so far you have answered all questions with qualitative answers, what about quantative part, any facts and figures to ponder?

Nitin Nimkar (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:31 IST)
Dear Mr. Mishra, The world is not repecting our views on nukes becuase we do not have the Economic clout like China. What are your views??

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:33 IST)
Karthik>> PM's health is "AS GOOD as it gets"

Hamir Thakur (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:33 IST)
Tina Brown : This situation proves that Indians are more tolerant.

Tina Brown (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:33 IST)
Mr Mishra, unmindful of your cold shoulder, I shall continue... If asked to name your government's five achievements in the five months it has been in office, what would you say?

Karthik Subbiah (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:34 IST)
Mr. Mishra, the concept nuclear deterrent also renders us vulnerable paradoxically. We have been seeing escalated attacks by the Pakistani forces along our borders. Do you think that we have an effective non-nuclear military option to these provocations?

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:35 IST)
Thanks Mr. Mishra, any statistics to back the claims. I know cauvery is achoevement. Can you not emulate Mr. Chandra babu in your administration too?

Angela Hart (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:36 IST)
But Mr Mishra, India is largely seen as a country which doesn't care for its people. The corrupt bureaucracy, apathetic politicians...until peeple at the top don't look at things below earnestly this corruption will eat your country up. What hope can you give your people, Mr Mishra?

Anthony Balderstone (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:37 IST)
Mr Mishra: Do you believe that India has lost its moral authority by conducting these nuclear tests? We believe -- and I speak for an organisation that is at the forefront of nuclear policy reserach -- that you have actually harmed the interests of your people. The Chinese, I understand, have already directed some of their missiles in Tibet towards India. What have you gained by these tests? And can you deny that they were motivated by internal political reasons rather than external security compulsions?

Nitin Nimkar (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:37 IST)
Dear Mr. Mishra, Sorry sir, I am repeating... The world is not repecting our views on nukes becuase we do not have the Economic clout like China. What are your views??

charlie (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:38 IST)
Mr Mishra: The US hopes that you would soon sign the CTBT. Is your government on the verge of signing it?

VASANT (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:39 IST)
I AM BORED

Angela Hart (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:39 IST)
Mr Mishra, I beg to differ, sir. Stability? yeah, that sure is relative. If you call bursting bombs, yes, there's stability. If you call inviting economic sanctions, yes, of course, there's stability. If you call paying a Commission to inquire about something and then when it submits is report rejecting it outright, why, certainly, there's stability!

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:39 IST)
Chris>> Security is a perception, what threat is there from Kosovo to US. Yes Europe may feel threatened, but US is remotely threatened yet US planners are always scanning for Perceived, projected and future threats. India has two nuclear armed neighbours with territorial claims. hope this clarifies regards. Spinster

deeps (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:40 IST)
i am a 23 year old business man. i have employed six people in my org. and i am trying to expand my business but it seems that its more of a pain doing business in my country. would you suggest: 1) leave my country and start working outside 2) keep struggling seeing other seniour business man going through so much of pain and frustration 3) quit businees and get into politics to change things by myself. please keep in mind that i am a strong lover of my country honest, sincere and like to pay taxes

Angela Hart (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:41 IST)
Vasant pal, so am I -- Bored! with Mr Mishra's diplomatic answers...

lovekesh (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:42 IST)
Sir, Again, your comments, please on Mr. Jaswant Singh's China trip?

Angela Hart (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:42 IST)
Spoken like a diplomat, Mr Mishra, spoken like the diplomat you are....

Nitin Nimkar (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:43 IST)
Angela Hart, We never heard so much of noise when China exploded nukes in late 90s. Is it because west has more fincial commitment in China than in India??

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:44 IST)
Hamir>> India is paying for the luxary of democracy. "Democracy is the most inefficent form of governance, but the most desirable" winston Chruchil

Samuel Rohatyn (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:44 IST)
Ambassador: You have served in China as has your foreign secretary. You better than anyone else in the Prime Minister's Office know how the Chinese mindset works. Why then did you advise Prime Minister Vajpayee embark on a course that have reversed the confidence building measures of the recent past, and only served to antagonise the Chinese?

charlie (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:44 IST)
Mr Mishra: Pakistan insists that Kashmir should be discussed first. The Indian government insists that it should be discussed along with other key issues. Aren't both sides being very rigid? Why shouldn't both sides discuss Kashmir first, and then go on to other issues?

Chris Hitchens (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:45 IST)
Ambassador: Your prime minister told President Clinton of the threat to India from China. Yet, we have seen no evidence of this. Could you provide some more information about this, information that will bear up to scrutiny?

Tina Brown (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:45 IST)
Mr Mishra: Assuming your willingness to discuss all issues, including Jammu and Kashmir with Islmabad, can you outline what you are willing to discuss on J&K? More autonomy? Plebiscite under UN supervision? What exactly are you willing to discuss about Kashmir?

Angela Hart (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:45 IST)
Nitin, what else.. I am sure that Mr Mishra will agree with me on that

jhakkiofindia (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:47 IST)
panditji, why dont U want to reveal the name of the person who was bribed by the media baron as suggested by the chennai queen?

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:47 IST)
Mr. Mishra: I have done an objective assesment of the BJP govt. and find it the most effective in the recent years. My only concern is to keep this govt. in power for a full term in spite of the threats from the AIADMK's corrupt leadership. My suggestion is to break away from this crass manipulations of Ms. Jayalalitha as soon as possible.

Dharmatma (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:47 IST)
MS.Tina: Unquestionably the achievements of BJP 1Nuclear tests 2 lokpal bill 3 Cauvery river water sharing 4 Womens Bill 5 ICHR replacement 6 Giving FIlm production Industry status

Nandini (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:47 IST)
Hiiiiiii there, Brijju! *smiles and wavees at him* I bet you don't remember me...! Hi there Angela, is he behaving?

jhakkiofindia (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:50 IST)
Panditji, how will your PM survive ib the Chennai Queen exits?

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:50 IST)
have done an objective assesment of the BJP govt. and find it the most effective in the recent years. My only concern is to keep this govt. in power for a full term in spite of the threats from the AIADMK's corrupt leadership. My suggestion is to break away from this crass manipulations of Ms. Jayalalitha as soon as possible. I hope this option is foremost on the BJP's list (although you cannot talk about it in public!).

Ganpat Tulpule (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:51 IST)
Good evening, G V Tulpule from the East Coast. Mr Mishra: People here will ask you about the nuclear tests. Others will quiz you about the problems your boss is facing vis-a-vis the Lady from Chennai. My query is different: Traditionally, the PM0 has been a cauldron of intrigue. The instances of the PMO in Mr Rao's time are wellknown. I believe that is not the case with your PMO just as yet. Good. However, I want to know what direction is the PMO giving to fighting the nation's problems. For instance, I believe the problem of economic and social unrest in my native Mumbai may one day soon wrench the city apart. Is some thought going into India's future, and if so how?

Angela Hart (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:51 IST)
Welcome Nandini.. yeah, I would say he is behaving.. *LoL* Though I must say your 'Brijju' is being very matter of fact and curt in his answers... Very diplomatic, you see! *s*

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:52 IST)
hakkiofindia >>> Just keep singing "Humpty Dumpty had a great fall....." and that would be the end of Queen!!!

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:52 IST)
Mr Mishra please answer the question of 23 year old business man deeps

Uma (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:52 IST)
Dear Angela, But Economic clout is not a passport to Nukes or is it west' perception?

jhakkiofindia (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:53 IST)
Panditji, will you go back to "the corner at Ashoka rd."if your govt.falls tomorrow?

Nandini (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:53 IST)
Tell me one thing, Brijju, forget about all this Pak and India stuff... do you remeber the time when we bunked class to go to the icecream parlour? And then we went for a long walk, with the icecream dripping.. remember? I bet you don't... *sigh*

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:54 IST)
Mr. Mishra, do you think there is any hope for Indo-Pak reconciliation in view of the fact that we were instrumental in the break-up of east & West pak and now they are seeking revenge in Kashmir?

Tina Brown (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:54 IST)
Mr Mishra, taking off from your reply to an earlier question on China outpacing India, what do you think the BJP/BJS would have done differently had it been in power since independence, instead of the Congress?

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:54 IST)
Mr. Mishra: What other measures are being considered to offset the sanctions and the economic crisis as far the value of the rupee is concerned ? I heard that the RIB scheme is not a huge success as predicted ? what non-traditional incentives is the govt. providing at this stage for FI's ?

jhakkiofindia (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:55 IST)
spinster is also in "saffron"?

Angela Hart (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:55 IST)
Dearest Uma, that's the way it appears now, don't you think? If you have clout, well, you can go ahead and bust a bomb or two.. and if you don't have, you can still go ahead and bust bombs, but you will get into trouble -- that's all!

Chris Hitchens (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:55 IST)
There have been at least three incidents in the recent past where Pakistani nationals have been accused of waging war against the United States and its citizens. R Yousef in the World Trade Center bombing, Mir Kansi in the CIA shooting, now Mohammad Obaid in the Kenyan bombing. I believe Pakistani nationals comprise the bul of Osama bin Laden's army of vengeance against America. Do you have any evidence of Pakistan government complicity in this business of terror? Not in Kashmir, but elsewhere.

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:55 IST)
would u recommend young people to come into politics to bring about change in the country

Dharmatma (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:56 IST)
Tina Kashmir is part &parcel of INDIA SINCE time immemorial.Kashmir is the inalienable part of INDIA & it IS its right.Pakistan is the aggressor in 1947-48. It has to vacate the POK region of PAK.

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:56 IST)
>>>Chris, why exclude Kashmir? let's always be pro life!!!

Nandini (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:56 IST)
And Brijju, that day you were wearing khaki trousers and a white shirt.. and when the icecream melted it dripped all over your white shirt.. remember?

Hamir Thakur (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:56 IST)
Dear Shri Mishra, My great-grand mother told me about a king who was worried about the termites in his garden so the minister advised keeping hens. When the number of hens grew out of control the minister suggested keeping some cats. When the cats number grew out of control the minister advised to go for dogs. And finally the country was taken over by the dogs. Cats started to walk on fences and rest of of the life forms disappeared. Isn't it symbolic of India's government or semi-government undertakings?

Karthik Subbiah (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:57 IST)
Mr. Mishra, I am not giving it any religious color. I am just putting across a suggestion, I mean the option between saying "Vande Mataram" and "Sare Jahan Se Acha" because we can ill-afford to have another controversy sir. There have been so many questions about why we are, as a nation, still backward. My answer is simple: We have been focusing on the differences in our society and creating controversies, one after the other and therefore unable to be productively involved.

hotjock (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:57 IST)
will pak nuke us???

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:57 IST)
Chris: I can get you a contact in the Pak ISI who can show you logs of all Pak activities and contributions to world terror. They are everywhere.

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:58 IST)
hakkiofindia >> Spinster for Green Peas!!!

PalashK (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:58 IST)
Mr Mishra, can you please reply to my question on the PoK? There are a few other issues, I would you to give a clarification on.

Nandini (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:59 IST)
And Brijju, how you howled that day! Saying your mother would kill you because you spoiled the shirt? Remember? *s*

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:59 IST)
Mishraji where r u?

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:59 IST)
Mr. Mishra, I have been reading politics from Nehrus time and have taken varied points of view on several matters involving India vis a vis neighbours. After the Bangladesh war I campaigned to have the POWs released on humanitarian grounds. Dont you think Indira Gandhi let go of a good opportunityy to settle the Kashmir issue in exchange for POWs? I feel this problem now has no solution except defeat for India.

Uma (Thu Aug 20 1998 8:59 IST)
Karthik, You will always land in problem if you are always accomdative. Somewhere you hav to say it...

Karthik Subbiah (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:0 IST)
Sir, I would like to know, as suggested by Col. Lakshmi Sehgal of the INA, if we have dialouge going on between the Kashmiri politicians and the Central Government. I think we ought to be doing that because it would then create a true opinion in the world that it is an internal matter.

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:0 IST)
Mr Mishra: On a personal note, how has your life changed since you became a vital part of the PMO ? Do you have further aspirations ? Do you value the country foremost in your ideology ?

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:0 IST)
Is mishraji here ?

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:1 IST)
I love Milk Bikis and the new cashew-badam ones, yummm!

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:2 IST)
I agree Mr. Mishra.. The decision making capacity was the proof of BJPs political will. And I am sure you played no small part in this.

Nandini (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:2 IST)
*sad*Brijju, Brijju, you don't remember me.. *sob* why don't you talk to me?

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:2 IST)
mishraji what u would suggest, you want me to keep doing business or come into politics

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:3 IST)
Tony: You from that (dairyland) Wisconsin Project dude ?

Karthik Subbiah (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:3 IST)
Dear Uma, If there is a destiny for India, I firmly believe that it is to show to this world about living peacefully with all the contradictions. To say simply, "Unity in Diversity" is the motto for our country as "Freeedom, Liberty, and Progress" for the Western democracies.

Sunil K (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:4 IST)
True, I would call it as a bold decision. But achievment ? and what did the govt. achieve by imposing economic sanctions ?

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:4 IST)
please reply to youth of this country

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:4 IST)
Mr. vaibhav, let me put in my two bit worth on your query since I have been thru much the same experience like yourself. These decisions are of your conscience and if you are at peace with whatever decision you make then that is the correct decision

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:4 IST)
Anthony Balderstone>> If I may sir, The very fact Missiles are in Tibet is a secuirity threat, turning to wards India does not change the equation. Only now that they may think twice before ... Regards spinster

PalashK (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:4 IST)
Sir, can you reply to my question on PoK? I want to know what progress India has made in bringing back PoK? How are we going about it or how do we plan to go about it?

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:5 IST)
mishraji can u reply any one of my question

Karthik Subbiah (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:5 IST)
A request to you Nadini, please do not desecrate this forum

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:5 IST)
Mr Mishra: On a personal note, how has your life changed since you became a vital part of the PMO ? Do you have further aspirations ? Do you value the country foremost in your ideology ?

Dharmatma (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:5 IST)
AMAR it is totally wrong to think that INdia is instrumental in breaking PAK Dont spread false information. Pak dug its own grave inthat matter When they refused to recognize the electoral victory of MUJIB & then the GENOCIDE (3MIL people butchered&200000 women raped)BY PAKIS army.10 MILLION refugees poured into INDIA as REFUgees. InDIAS INTERVENTION at that stage is a noble mission to prevent further genocide & is truly heroic saga in the modern history.

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:6 IST)
PalashK: We are just going to take it back by covert force. Simple.

Uma (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:6 IST)
Dear Karthik, Unity should be from both ends with repect ... what are your views on so many ethnik problems with only one communiity...

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:6 IST)
mishraji it seems u are too slow at typing!!!

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:7 IST)
Mr balderstone dont you think the US would have been better off had they developed the nuke BEFORE the Japs attacked? Then the war would have got over in a few days and we would never have seen the Japanese attrocities!

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:8 IST)
can u answer other questions other than pak and nuc issue as they have already been settled

Brahm Astra (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:8 IST)
Mr. Mishra: What hobbies do you have other than diplomacy and politics ? Where were you educated ?

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:8 IST)
vaibhav>> Time to get VSNL out of communication monopoly, dont blame Mr.Misra

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:9 IST)
Mr. Vaibhav todays disc. is supposed to concentrate on the nuke issue, in case you did not know.

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:10 IST)
spinster u r correct. get something across Mr mishra he is struck on pok and nuc

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:11 IST)
Amar > sorry we didnt know that thanks for telling that. please let us know the exact topic of the chat

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:11 IST)
Mr. Sunil let me, if you will allow , say that we live in the world of real politik. Mr. Sharif and Mr. Vajpayee are artisans of politics and they have killed two birds with one stone.

Karthik Subbiah (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:12 IST)
Dear Uma, I do to some extent believe, unfortunately, that this is not being felt by all of us. It is because we thought that these political issues. Gandhiji always thought that these were social issues requiring social attention. Like education, employment, and economic opportunities to all and not based on caste, creed, and religion.

Tina Brown (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:13 IST)
Mr Mishra, do you have a contingency plan in place if Ms J Jayalalitha withdraws support to your government?

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:13 IST)
Mr. Misra last question from me. Please give with figures (remember the saying "if you cant measure you cant control"). 1) What are the achievements of this govt so far? 2) What do you target in the next one year. 3) How many sandas are going to build for the Indian women, who have to go through the humilation day after day. Thanks in advance. Spinster

PalashK (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:13 IST)
Thank you for that. I want to know one thing, here we are talking about improving relations, after the nuclear tests, it has become all the more imperative. At the same time we begin this talk about getting back PoK. How does this help is improving relations?

Sunil K (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:14 IST)
amar : Let Mr. Mishra accept that fact - that the tests were conducted solely for the purpose of poiltical benefits and who thinks of Indian people ? (in short - to hell with them)

Anthony Balderstone (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:14 IST)
Sir, what checks and balances exist in the PMO to prevent corruption and misuse of power?

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:15 IST)
Ms. Brown, it is Jayalalitha who has to have a contingency plan in case she withdraws support cause she will have to leave Poes Garden for a cell.

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:17 IST)
Thank God you have not yet joined politics, vaibhav.

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:17 IST)

Easy, Mr. hamir. He has not answered any of my questions yet. No need to get upset. The man cannot be completely frank.. He is answerable unlike us.

Hamir Thakur (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:21 IST)
TINA BROWN : My Q depicting cats and dogs, on the same theme is still unanswered.

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:21 IST)
Mr. Mishra do you think that there is a need to get young people like me more deeply involved in national activities

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:22 IST)
Vaibhav, I have nothing to do with rediff and like I said I too have left the West for reasons of consience so have almost teh same feelings like you.

Raj (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:22 IST)
Mr. Mishra, Are there still politicians in Kashmir who are not serious on tackling terrorism?

Jimmy (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:22 IST)
Hi everyone

Raj (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:22 IST)
Mr. Mishra, Are there still politicians in Kashmir who are not serious on tackling terrorism?

Jimmy (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:22 IST)
Mr. Mishra why are you not tackling the Kashmir issue with a firm hand?

Dharmatma (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:23 IST)
TINA ; MS JAYA is enjoying unprecedented power with her18 votes. If she withdraws support she will be the biggest looser. Is she that foolish?

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:23 IST)
Mr. samuel, which country are u from?

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:24 IST)
Amar welcome to the gang of - the struggling hard helpless young indians who have yet to give up all hopes

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:24 IST)
Samuel Rohatyn>> There is no dispute about Kashmir. It is an integral part of India. This mis understanding between nieghbours can be solved by themselves Regards Spinster

desir (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:24 IST)
Mr. Mishra: Thank you again for the convincing answer.. but, it raises a few questions 1)Do U have any idea when the 'coldwar' will begin to end. 2)Why is it taking so long to quell the Pak's proxy war, meanwhile? Can U please also answer 3)Whether the government is doing its part to instill 'desh-bhakti' in POLITICIANS 4)And is the government ready to punish corrupt politicians whoever they are

Jimmy (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:24 IST)
Mr. Mishra, Instead of loud talk, have you guys not heard of diplomacy? Mr. Advani in particular needs to look up the word diplomat in a dictionary!

Tina Brown (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:25 IST)
Mr Mishra: I had asked this question earlier, too. What exactly is your government to discuss on Kashmir... going back to 1952-status of autonomy? Plebiscite under UN supervision?

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:25 IST)
I can make u cry with my tales of sorrow, Vaib. Screwed by the govt. mostly. In every way.

Sunil K (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:27 IST)
Mr. Mishra : What do you have to say about the fact that CIA was unaware about the tests ? Do you say that CIA does not have its presence in your research organizations ? Remember the fact when Ms. Butto visited US and denied that Pakistan had a bomb. She was promptly presented with a prototype of the bomb. Certainly now CIA is going to increase its presence withing the R&D organizations. How are you going to protect your scientists and engineers from the CIA threat ?

PalashK (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:27 IST)
Sir, can you pls respond to my earlier question? How does the talk of getting back PoK help in improving relations between Inda and Pakistan particularly after the nuclear tests?

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:27 IST)
lovekesh>> Because Japan is US proxy

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:27 IST)
Mr Mishra diplomacy and negotiations through immature irresponsible self centered politicians and bureaucrats has resulted in nothing in last 50 yrs when we had the chance we did nothing and now almost nothing can be done but to keep things the way they are. thank for replying to my question.

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:28 IST)
Mr. Mishra, I think the US has pulled wool over our eyes by saying they did not know about our tests. In any case this is standard strategy. To net let all and sundry know your capabilities.

vaibhav (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:29 IST)
amar mishraji is lucky he has the excuse of being new in the govt. so he can get away till jayalalitha throws them out.

Spinster (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:30 IST)
vaibhav>> "Wage WAR to Win PEACE" seems to be your motto !!

lovekesh (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:30 IST)

amar (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:30 IST)

ppl hi... Am I too late?

Dharmatma (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:36 IST)
MR samuel: YOU dont have the right perspective and historical facts & view about KASHMIR . THEN how can you involve? Can InDIA GET involved in US PROBLEMS? ALRWEADY INDIA was PARTIONED ( ONLY COUNTRY TO BE DIVIDED) ON the rediculous religious basis. Can you divide US on the basis of religion? SAY if NAtion of ISLAM wants? IN addition MUSLIMS CAME AS INVADERS FROM OUTSIDE JUST LIKE BRITISHERS. we GOT INDEPENDENCE FROM BRITAIN BUT NOT FROM MUSLIMS. ON the other hand they successfully took away the INdian land & declared theocratic, fundamentalistic, discriminatory islamic state.

shilpa phadke (Thu Aug 20 1998 9:36 IST)
