'We are in the early stages of a bull market'

'However, we should be alert. Market is six months ahead of the real economy,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

Rajiv : Ramesh, thanks for your valuable insights into the markets. Do you see the sustenance upward of McDowell and Bharat Electronics
Ramesh S. Damani : I do. Both appear to prsoper in the coming bull market.

Rajiv : Some analysts on moneycontrol expect a sharp correction in second rung tech. Would you suggest entry into Satyam or HCL Tech after they decline a bit??
Ramesh S. Damani : I think they will correct sharply in Jan just before results. Outlook seems poor yet for tech. However market is going to hold up well till december 3rd week.

Jeevan : Do you agree that we are in the early stages of a bull market and if so can we expect the run to continue for a couple of months? I plan to selectively buy on dips as suggested by you
Ramesh S. Damani : I think it looks good. Buying on dips is a good strategy. However we should be alert.

Jeevan : GATI Corp has moved well lately. Any idea whats driving it up??
Ramesh S. Damani : I still own it. It had become cheap. Value buy.

Jeevan : Apart from Container Corp. do you like any PSUs for investments currently??
Ramesh S. Damani : BEL and BEML. VSNL may give a good dividend.

Jeevan : What's new at Shree Cement. Pashpati Advani was saying they are an efficient producer. Can we expect it to shine in the next few weeks??
Ramesh S. Damani : There was some talk that it would be sold. It has since been shelved. It is too small to prosper by itself.

silverinvestor : Line of business & balance sheet of Infotech Enterprise looks extremely attractive but management is unknown to me.Any idea about the quality of management?
Ramesh S. Damani : The IT Enabled sector will witness good interest. Infotech Mgmt is not the best but offer good value among second rung IT enabled stocks.

investor : Sir how you rate BEL at 80 rs.?should I buy some more or see some which I already have?
Ramesh S. Damani : BEL at Rs 80 looks good to me. Stock should pay over Rs 6 div and earn Rs 25 for FY 2002.

investor : Well At 25 rs. EPS for BEl what according to you should be atleasst P/E for the stock?
Ramesh S. Damani : That is the big question. If the market gives it a PE of 10, we would be rich.

sanjeev : Sir, Can you tell me any good web site to get real time company news/annoucements
Ramesh S. Damani : bseindia.com is good.

investor : Do you own Mecdowell or plan to own some?
Ramesh S. Damani : I own some shares in Mc dowell.

silverinvestor : Another stock in limelight is Trygyn. After change in management,is it worth rerating?
Ramesh S. Damani : It is probably having a technical bounce.

sanjeev : Can you suggest a online broker? I have account with icicdirect, but i find tata-waterhouse is better. how do you think?
Ramesh S. Damani : As you can imagine since I am a broker I dont use other brokers. Any major one will be okay.

silverinvestor : Finally did you get a chance to read Seymour Hearsh(Newyorker)?
Ramesh S. Damani : Thanks. I recd it in the mail. I have not read it though yet. How are you doing?

SRI : HAI! RAMESHJI. I HAVE PENTAMEDIA 2300 SHARES @ 136 ON AVG BASIS.AT PRESENT AVOID OR HOLD
Ramesh S. Damani : I would avoid it.

investor : Well BEL is a PSU and may be 10 P/E is upper side but for MCdowell you see what kind of numbers by end year..and hopefully what P/E?
Ramesh S. Damani : There is some restructuring going on in UB group. Management is trying to unlock value.

investor : Mr. Damani what should I do with My IPCL stock..stuck with it for three years or so and at around 90 rs. purchase prise?any chance you see that prise coming back on because of process of disinvestment?your frank openion...
Ramesh S. Damani : If not Rs 90, at least around Rs 75.

trader : i have completely lost faith in the markets and my wife asks me to quit trading and choose an alternate profession. and that's one tough thing for me to do since i'm so passionate about stocks.. what should i do?? i'm really depressed damanisaab. please help me. :-((((
Ramesh S. Damani : How can I help? Markets are not for everyone. What was your specific problem?

sanjeev : bseindia.com only gives current news for all comapmny concerned. It does n't give new for a specified company. and it won't show the old news. e.g. yahoo.com shows all the news for a stock..
Ramesh S. Damani : Thanks for that. Myiris.com is good too.

rama : wat do u feel abt dr reddy's at current level. i want to buy it...
Ramesh S. Damani : looks okay to me. Wockhardt is also getting some attention.

investor : Is some decline in the immediate horizon?
Ramesh S. Damani : Could be.

henry : govt has divested 17% stake in bhel. wat is ur reaction to this?
Ramesh S. Damani : Is this a new disinvestment?

sanjeev : Don't you think, online trading will your business. and ordinary people can also trade like professionals? They don't have to depend upon brokers anymore.
Ramesh S. Damani : It could well happen in a few years.

spitfire : Market buzz has it that there's yet another scam in the making... that Aftek lifted Sensex by 800 points and things like that... should the small investor run away again?
Ramesh S. Damani : Buy stocks at values you understand. Don't worry about scams at this level.

dinku : the announcement of bhel was just made so i guess its a new thing damaniji
Ramesh S. Damani : I was not aware of it. That wouldbe good.

dinku : niit was removed frm the bse 30 index. is it doing so bad?
Ramesh S. Damani : It's market cap shrunk to make it irrelevant. The great companies protect their market cap.

dinku : this the news: The government is planning to divest around 17 per cent stake in Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited to bring down its holding to 51 per cent from the current level of 67.7 per cent. The heavy industries ministry has okayed a proposal
Ramesh S. Damani : They need to bring it below 51 per cent for this to be meaningful. This won't help.

investor : When process of merging the two listed companies going on..prises of them remains mostly on subdued side with rise in the market and drops when market drops thus very much under performance..despite great fundamentals and as this amalgation or merger gets completed after some time prises shoots up to the more appropriate levels..IS my observation correct?
Ramesh S. Damani : any specific examples.

silverinvestor : I am still buying CRISIL, BEL, WOCKHARDT, E MERCK,AVENTIS PHARMA& CROP SC,ALSTHOM POWER,ABB etc Hope I am doing allright.
Ramesh S. Damani : Looks okay. Buy some tech.

sandeep : sir who is your favourate personality?
Ramesh S. Damani : Male or Female ???

sandeep : male
Ramesh S. Damani : Jim Rogers. He is NY based prop investor. I admire his work and attitude in life.

silverinvestor : I do have E Serve, BFL, Digital, Satyam, Infotech Enter. Any other than this worth adding?
Ramesh S. Damani : That is a good collection.

investor : In tech which one seems to have some more steam left?( It is difficult for me and many others here really for this tech identification thing..only objective of this question is stocks with still more 10-20 % upside )
Ramesh S. Damani : You are looking at bottom prices. Look at top prices

sanjeev : Sir, Can I get your email id for future contact/tips? Do you have any web site/your own chat room for your tips? or anyway to keep in contact with you. Are you aware of any indian broker who gives tips online ?
Ramesh S. Damani : This is the best place to reach me.

Ramesh S. Damani : In terms of looks and admiration, Ritu Beri and Sanjana Kapoor are great.

kannan : hi ramesh! what is gap opening of sensex and when will it get closed (during the day or next day)
Ramesh S. Damani : When market open higher than last close, it is called a gap. It mostly gets closed. Gaps that don't get closed on the upside are bullish.

researcher : zee has crossed the rs. 120 mark after a long long time. how much longer should one hold on considering its at 140 now?
Ramesh S. Damani : It has some steam left.

dinku : the economists in the US are finally saying that the recession is official. So when do u think that the economy will bounce back?
Ramesh S. Damani : Let's see. Market is 6 months ahead of the real economy.

investor : Don't know Ritu berry( the dreas designer???) but MS. Kapoor is Fantastic gal for sure..Thumbs UP sir
Ramesh S. Damani : Ritu is the dress designer. I love her work and her looks. Hope she does an IPO.

Bharat : How safe is it to invest in India now ?
Ramesh S. Damani : Emerging markets are not safe. They are very volatile.

sandeep : sir do u like kerala?
Ramesh S. Damani : Not been there.

jitesh : What do you think is indian economy leading to??? Do you think if it can be stable?? TThe sensex moves up and down so randomly??
