Six Sensex cos add Rs 32,064 crore in market cap; Infy top gainer

Helped by a smart uptick in the market value of Infosys, the combined market capitalisation of top-six Sensex companies surged Rs 32,064 crore (Rs 320.64 billion) last week.

Four companies --TCS, Coal India, Wipro and Bharti Airtel -- saw decline in their market-cap.

On the other hand, six companies, including Infosys, RIL and HDFC witnessed rise in their value in an overall positive stock market.

IT major Infosys' m-cap surged Rs 10,288 crore (Rs 102.88 billion) to Rs 2,14,078 crore (Rs 2,140.78 billion).

Infosys had on January 10 declared its earnings where it posted a 21.4 per cent rise in net profit and raised its revenue growth outlook for this financial year as improving US and European economies revive demand for outsourcing services.

After Infosys, RIL saw the maximum jump in its value which rose by Rs 8,935 crore (Rs 89.35 billion) to Rs 2,85,842 crore (Rs 2,858.42 billion).

Mortgage lender HDFC's value soared Rs 6,299 crore (Rs 62.99 billion) to Rs 1,31,038 crore (Rs 1,310.38 billion), while ONGC added Rs 3,166 crore (Rs 31.66 billion) to Rs 2,45,970 crore (Rs 2,459.7 billion).

The value of ITC went up by Rs 1,904 crore (Rs 19.04 billion) to Rs 2,57,784 crore (Rs 2,577.84 billion), while HDFC Bank's m-cap climbed Rs 1,472 crore (Rs 14.72 billion) to Rs 1,60,030 crore (Rs 1,600.3 billion).

In contrast, the market valuation of TCS slumped Rs 12,957 crore (Rs 129.57 billion) to Rs 4,33,985 crore (Rs 4,339.85 billion), while CIL lost Rs 10,075 crore (Rs 100.75 billion) to Rs 1,72,278 crore (Rs 1,722.78 billion).

The m-cap of Bharti Airtel declined by Rs 7,755 crore (Rs 77.55 billion) to Rs 1,24,399 crore (Rs 1,243.99 billion) while Wipro's value fell by Rs 514 crore (Rs 5.14 billion) to Rs 1,36,211 crore (Rs 1,362.11 billion).

In the ranking of top-10 companies, TCS stood at the numero-uno position, followed by RIL, ITC, ONGC, Infosys, CIL, HDFC Bank, Wipro, HDFC and Bharti.

The BSE benchmark index Sensex rose by 305.13 points or 1.46 per cent to end the week at 21,063.62.
