Taking note of the rapid development in Gujarat, Reliance Industries Limited Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani praised Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his 'exemplary' leadership.

"You have made India and Indians proud by putting Gujarat on the global map. Gujarat is blessed to have an inspiring leadership like you," said Ambani, while addressing the second annual convocation of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) this evening at Gandhinagar. Ambani was speaking in his capacity as the president and chairman of PDPU.

"Your (Modi's) exemplary leadership has proved to the world about the development of Gujarat. The impact of this on sectors including agriculture, education and energy is unparalleled and the world has taken the note of this development."

"The energy consumption in the world is projected to increase to 17 billion tonnes of crude oil equivalent by 2030, and India and China would account for one third of global energy consumption. India needs to increase its energy infrastructure six times that of the current level," he said, adding that PDPU was an outcome of Modi's visionary leadership.

He said Gujarat can take a lead in innovation in the energy sector. "It reminds me of making impossible things possible. If an arid land in Jamnagar can be converted into the refining capital of the world and if a sleepy village in Gujarat can become an automotive hub of Asia, I feel it can be done. I feel the energy in the air."

Commenting on the significance of the energy sector on the global economic order, Ambani said: "I view the energy industry as a fulcrum around which, the world business order and therefore a new global order is built. The energy is a real need for society and individual. Energy for transportation, light and cooking is the basic right to every human being in the world."

"Energy has the highest potential to do social good and it is the very powerful engine for economic growth." The convocation was also attended by veteran banker and new chairman of Infosys Limited K V Kamath, besides several energy sector leaders.

Speaking at the convocation, Modi congratulated Ambani and his team at the PDPU for "creating a jewel (PDPU) for meeting the human resource (HR) requirement of Gujarat".

"We at PDPU do not want to create robots having technology know how but we are preparing human beings."
