Minimum wage in India and around the world

While most of us don't have to worry about minimum wage, there are many for whom minimum wage is crucial. In India, the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, provides for fixation and enforcement of minimum wages in respect of scheduled employments.
Although the National Floor Level of Minimum Wage has fixed the amount, respective state governments have been empowered to independently fix minimum wages, which means disparities between wages in neighbouring states are common.
