Lonely Greece: Where are all the tourists?
The Greek financial crisis is making news as it now hobbles toward its third year. Everyone is now watching to see how Greece will handle its financial crisis and what the European Union plans to do to contain, control, or ease the situation.
As expected, most industries have been badly. One sector to take setback is the tourism industry. According to a Reuters report, tourism, which slumped by 25 per cent in 2009-2010 only to rebound last year, is crucial to Greece's economy, accounting for 15 per cent of its output and one in five jobs in a country where unemployment has hit a record high of 21 per cent.
