Leaders of India Inc in the financial capital, including Ambani brothers, Adi Godrej, A M Naik, N Chandrasekaran and Chanda Kochhar cast their votes today, expressing hopes for a stable and decisive government.

Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan voted at a booth near his official residence off Peddar Road in south Mumbai.

"It is the duty of everybody to vote. I appeal to all those who can vote, to please come out and vote," he said.

HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh, however, could not cast his vote as his name was missing from the list of voters at the booth where he had voted in the past.

A source familiar with the development said Parekh went to the polling centre in South Mumbai around 8.30 a.m. where he has been normally voting for decades and did not find his name in the list.

Accompanied by his wife Nita, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani cast his vote in south Mumbai.

"Our vote is what binds all Indians together and today we are very happy to be a part of the 1.2 billion Indians... a vote equalises and unites all of us to build a stronger India," he said.

"We want a stable government, we want a strong government and we do want a government to take fast actions... transparent and clear decision-making is very necessary," State Bank of India Chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya said after casting her vote at a booth in Malabar Hill area.

Talking of challenges, which lay ahead for the new government, Bhattacharya said: "The problem will be to manage expectations as there are huge expectations from this (coming) government. But going forward, what really needs to be done is to work together in order to curb inflation. Because inflation is anti-growth."

Ajit Gulabchand, the chairman of infrastructure major HCC and a resident of Nariman Point in South Mumbai, also voted early.

Gulabchand said that the economy had "nose-dived" and we were "shamed in front of the world" and hence, a stable government was needed.
