Beautiful yachts set to sail at Mumbai Boat Show

Some of the most amazing boats in the world are set to sail at Mumbai International Boat Show this week.

Here we take a look at some stunning yachts.

AB 116

AB Yachts, owned by the Fipa Group, is known for its large jet yachts. Their new AB 116 is a 36-metre (119-foot) vessel with triple decks that was also a huge hit at the 2011 Cannes Boat Show.

The yacht was designed by the interior design company of AB Yachts using a lot of advanced composites and lightweight materials.

With an overall length of 36 metres, the yacht can travel at a speed of 49 knots and yet be stable enough to prevent the passengers from being tossed around.

The yacht is spacious enough to enable a comfortable cruising experience. On first glance, what strikes you about the 116 is its naval architecture with its composite superstructure built over the carbon hull.

The materials used on this craft are borrowed from the aerospace industry, lending it a strong and lightweight body.

The superyacht is capable of accommodating 16 guests and six crew members. The AB 116 also boasts two garages - one each on the stern and on the bow with a storage capacity for two tenders of 5.4 and 4.5 metres along with two jet-skis.

The essential factors that have guided the development of the yacht's interior are the design and stylistic approach of the very highest quality, as well as extreme attention to even the smallest details.

The spaciousness of the vessel's interiors becomes evident right from the time you enter the cockpit where you will find a large sunpad that can be doubled as a sofa.

On entering the main saloon you are met with a large seating area surrounded by wide windows adding to the airiness.

The interiors reflect the nautical exteriors through the use of materials such as dumast and wenge, while the teak flooring adds a luxurious feel to most spaces.

The saloon consists of a U-shaped lounge area opposite a television-concealing system to starboard and a large dining table capable of seating 10-12 people.

The interiors are a communion of white, black and grey, while the exteriors have a silver-gold theme. There is a partial parting between the helm station and the saloon area so that one can enjoy a 360-degree view.

Belowdecks is the second salon that is equally well-equipped with a lounge area and television. The lower decks are illuminated by the light streaming in from the windshield in front of the main helm.

This is also where the owner's suite is located, housing several sections within itself.

Azimut 45

The new Azimut 45, one of Azimut Yacht's prestigious new arrivals for 2011, sets a new benchmark for the market by re-examining the fundamental aspects of liveability and quality, attaining a level that the competition will find difficult to match.

The great efforts put into design, functional studies, and technical research have now borne fruit in the form of the undoubtedly most advanced flybridge of its class on the market.

It is a project that leads to new consequences through the use of ideas that were put into practice in earlier models with great success.

These include a new layout for the living area that features a different use of available below-deck space through an innovative placement of the galley, as well as a cabin arrangement that come in two varieties - two or three cabins - each with a large central VIP cabin.

The exterior design and the concept were created by Stefano Righini, and the interior design, by Carlo Galeazzi, with the boatyard's technical office also making an important contribution.

On the exterior, the great achievement is the spacious flybridge, which is attached as a modular unit at the stern. At more than 12m2, the space can be reconfigured with the simple rearrangement of a few elements: from an dinette complete with a dining table and a sofa area with L- or C-shaped seating, to a spacious sundeck on a single level.

These elements have bases that use rotational technology, which enables a savings of 25 per cent in weight versus traditional elements.

The fly is designed to accommodate 10 people between seating, sundeck and steering station. Accessed by a handy stairway, this spacious terrace overlooking the sea covers the entire cockpit.

It has side railings at a height of 76 centimetres and a skylight near the exterior steering station that can be opened, allowing communication between the fly and the living quarters in the interior of the main deck.

This creates continuity between the two environments, exterior and interior, enabling communication between the two steering stations, including when underway.

The helm on the fly has a full instrument panel, including a Raymarine display of up to 14", and everything can be protected by a Bimini top.

Great design work is also on display in the cockpit, which comes with a folding table that disappears into the sofa and a 50-litre refrigerator or icemaker.

The swimming platform can be either fixed or retractable, which is also useful when hauling or launching the tender. The retractable version can bear a load of 350 kg, with running boards on the sides to assist in getting on and off the boat.

The central living room comes with two large sofas and a pouf, thus accommodating eight people.

The main sofa can be converted into a double bed. The table's height can be adjusted with the flip of a switch. Wardrobes have a total volume of 400 litres and an average height of 1.95 metres.

Chaparral 420

A new avatar of the 42-ft 400 Premiere is the 420 Premiere that is a luxurious and technologically-advanced hardtop express cruiser with deceptive looks that lead you into believing it's a 70-plus superyacht.

Controls at the fingertip include adjustable bucket seats, folding transom seats, retractable island berth, electronic sunroof and a swim platform.

For a boat that has a dry weight of 10,750 kg, it cruises with exceptional smoothness largely because of the elegantly-pointed bow.

The 420 is a double-deck boat that utilises space to the optimum. The cockpit is abundant with various entertainment options and forms the most inviting part of the boat.

It sports a wraparound seating, a wet bar, a barbecue grill and a dinette that can accommodate six people.

Furthermore, by sacrificing the dinette space, one can also avail the option of the foldable sun pad contained in the aft-facing lounge.

Another interesting feature is an alcove in the cockpit sole that latches the platform gate inside the groove and does not hang in the way.

The coupe-style 420 offers an undisturbed view of the horizon with its massive windows, while for those seeking a closer encounter with the sun, there are opening vents in the side windows, an optional electrically-operated sunroof and overhead flaps.

The surprises of the 420 do not end at the accommodative and entertaining cockpit, but the hardtop and climate control in the form of a reverse A/C work together to make it a three-season cruiser.

Additionally, the cockpit is also equipped with water misters that help keep the summer heat at bay. The hardtop sports skylights that can transform the day-cruiser into an evening lounge-destination.

The placing of a queen berth in the stateroom shows that the designers have put accommodation on a higher priority and have avoided making the master stateroom tiny and congested.

This spaciousness is made possible by Chaparral's distinctive Wide Tech bow that creates two pointed sponsons above the waterline and widens the bow by 19 inches.

Even though the queen berth occupies the entire room, it has a foot that can be folded down when not in use leaving enough space to move around. The Wide Tech bow also means more drawer space.

Another example of well-utilised space on the 420 is the main saloon with an L-shaped galley and a C-shaped settee placed right opposite each other.

The galley is a culinary enthusiast's playground with a large sink, self-closing drawers containing brushed-stainless steel appliances and equipments provided for complete cooking.

The C-shaped seating area in the centre of the saloon can also double up as a berth for two.

Ferretti 870

With an overall length of 87 feet, the new Ferretti 870 has a huge saloon with galley and dining area on the main deck, and four cabins belowdecks.

All of this fits together seamlessly, thanks to the close cooperation between Studio Zuccon International Project, AYT (Advanced Yacht Technology), the Ferretti Group's research and naval design centre, and the team of architects and designers of the Centro Stile Ferrettigroup.

Ferretti designers have hung onto the well-received design solutions from the hugely successful Ferretti 800 and Ferretti 830, while including some new bits which characterise this model. One of these is the bronze top above the helm station.

The designers have not forgotten about letting light in; this craft has large windows on the main deck to illuminate to saloon, while hull windows allow natural light into all the staterooms on the lower deck.

The glazing on the main deck is more extensive than on the 830, and is now higher and longer, thanks to the lower gunwale amidships.

The glazing now reaches the stern, separated from the helm station's glazing by three narrow windows that are reminiscent of a shark's gill slits, resulting in more continuous, harmonious lines and in a sleeker, longer profile.

On the inside, the saloon is obviously very well lit, and interior is finished in refined, walnut-stained natural oak wood.

The stern cockpit is wide enough to be considered an outdoor lounge, and is furnished with a teak table that can seat eight, and a bar unit to the port side.

There is loads of space around the table, enhancing the big-boat feel. Guests can enter the boat through a glass sliding door from the cockpit, and are greeted by a spread-out seating area, with a large L-shaped sofa and coffee table to port, and two armchairs to starboard.

The dining area is just ahead of this seating area, and incorporates a glass dining table that comfortably seats eight.

Ahead of the dining area is the galley; however the galley and the helm station are completely divided from the rest of the boat.

The helm is positioned to starboard, and this allows easy access to and from the galley. Port of the helm is a charting area, with a comfortable dinette, L-shaped sofa and a chart-table, to allow the owner to actively share the course with the helmsman.

A door behind the dinette leads to the Ernestomeda-designed galley, which can also be accessed through the port bulkhead, ensuring that crew do not need to cross the saloon.

The lower deck finds room for three double cabins, one twin cabin, the engine room, crew quarters and the tender gara#8805 yet the cabins all appear spacious and well-though-out.

The cockpit has generous U-shaped seating and teak table. White Movida fabric is used for the exterior seating and sun lounger aft.

To port there is a bar with fridge, optional grill and a small sink, that combine to make this a very well laid out self-contained area for relaxing in. It is the perfect place on this yacht to relax or soak up the sun on the large sunpad.

Beneath that sunpad is a tender garage fitted to accommodate a 3.2-metre Jet-RIB from Williams. There is also an electro-hydraulic swim platform that drops down to waist height underwater.

This makes for easy launch and recovery of the tender.
