If the year 2010 was the year of the hatchbacks, it appears that the year 2011 is all set to be big on sedan launches.

Sales of automobiles in India are expected to continue upward journey in 2011. Automobile sales in the domestic market would be driven mainly by healthy growth of the economy.

A stable economic environment, healthy IIP growth, favourable liquidity and availability of finance would be the chief drivers of growth in the domestic commercial vehicles market.

Nissan Sunny

The Sunny is likely to launch two engines for India: a 1.5 litre four cylinder motor capable of producing about 100 bhp and the 1.5 litre diesel motor doing duty in the Micra.

The Sunny is based on Nissan's versatile 'V' platform and has contemporary looks. This is the second model to be based in this platform after the Micra and is hailed as Nissan's 'New Global Sedan'.

Hyundai Avante is expected to be launched in both diesel and petrol with 5 speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

The sedan might come equipped with a 1.6 litre Gamma petrol engine and a diesel engine variant may follow shortly.

The petrol model will be powered by a 1591cc DOHC CVVT engine which generates maximum power of 118 Bhp at 6200 rpm with maximum torque of 156 Nm at 4200 rpm.
