The Bug, as it is lovingly called, is all set to be unveiled in a new avatar in Shanghai on April 18.

After which it will be the star attraction in New York and Berlin.

A release by Volkswagen defines the new Beetle as a reinterpretation of the silhouette of the original from which it borrows most of its design elements.

The new model will flaunt a sportier look with a swept-back windscreen, flatter roofline and a more curvaceous rear window and hatch.

Other new features might include new headlights, grille and higher-quality materials.

So, it is likely that the new model might make it to India shortly after its foreign launch.

The Volkswagen Beetle available in India is imported as a completely built unit from its Mexico plant and comes with a 2.0L4-cylinder petrol engine capable of producing 115bhp of maximum power at 5400rpm and 172Nm of maximum torque at 3200rpm.
