In a recently published media report Maruti officials have confirmed that there will be several new launches in the year 2011 from the Maruti stable.

The new launches are speculated to include - a sedan like the old Esteem, a small car like the existing Alto, a compact SUV, a new Swift and a diesel SX4 diesel.

The company is going to kick start the new year by launching its premium D segment sedan Kizashi in January.

Maruti Kizashi is likely to be powered by a J24B 2.4 litre petrol engine capable of producing 185 hp at 6,500 rpm (Manual Transmission) and 180 hp at 6,000 rpm (continuously Variable Transmission).

The maximum torque from the engine is 170 Nm at 4,000 rpm in both type of transmission.

In Japan and the US the car comes with standard Front Wheel Drive and optional All Wheel Drive.

The optional i-AWD system includes a driver-activated Front Wheel Drive mode to save fuel.

It is speculated that the car is likely to have either 17 inch or 18 inch alloy wheels.

The suspension system would be Macpherson strut and coil springs.

The safety and braking system would include Electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), Electric Stability Program (ESP) along with the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS).

It will be brought into the country as a completely built unit (CBU), which will attract heavy import duty and double the car's cost.

So far the SX4 is the most expensive car in Maruti Suzuki's portfolio at a starting price of about Rs 700,000.

But Kizashi is all set to change that and give the car brand a presence in the premium segment.
