Opened in March 2011, the museum is situated in central Athens near the National Archaeological Museum, on the three top floors of the newly built Athenian Capitol shopping mall.

The museum has a collection of 300 cars of which about 110 are displayed periodically.

The museum offers many other facilities such as a Formula 1 simulator, a road safety educational programme and an amphitheatre. The museum spread across an area of 30,000 sq m, has 300 cars on display.

The museum has an auditorium with modern showroom at the foyer, simulators and special education program for children in road safety and for young people in racing driving, cafe and memorabilia store.

"The main criteria for selecting car models were my childhood dreams. Indeed, the first cars of the collection, were a Maserati Mistral, a Rolls Royce Wraith, two Jaguars E-type, two Lancia Appia Zagato, two Austin Healey 3.000 and three Dinos (one of them a Ferrari); all of them were those that had left me speechless when I had first seen them, some only in pictures, says Theodore N Charagionis, Founder of Hellenic Motor Museum.

An important element of the design is the bioclimatic design of the buildings, with limited crystal surfaces, the collection and management of rainwater, the production of electrical power via solar panels, along with the use of low-energy light bulbs.

Three of the six floors of the upper-level, are dedicated to the first 'Classical Automobile Museum of Athens'.  It has a conference hall, gift shops, playground and leisure area.

The rotating collection of 111 historic cars were donated by the founder Theodore N Charagionis from unique car collection.

Parts of the Museum will operate as cultural sites, professional and social events areas, highlighting its human oriented character.
