The Tata Manza.

India's biggest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, is all set to foray into the premium sedan segment, which seems to be the recent favourite among car buyers.

While the market awaits the new sedan Maruti Kizashi, there is some more interesting information floating in from the Maruti and Tata stables regarding a diesel SX4 and a face-lifted Tata Manza.

Tata Manza

With Manza, Tata Motors has tried to break away from its image of a taxi in 2009. Looks like the company is now planning to take this a step further and giving the Tata Manza a face lift.

The changes are most likely to be mostly cosmetic in nature both from the inside and out.

But the big news is the speculation regarding a name change. The name Indigo is likely to be replaced by Manza Elan to create a separate brand identity for Manza and avoid putting in the same category as the CS.

The current Manza is powered by Fiat engines -- the 1.3-litre multi-jet and the 1.4-litre FIRE engine. The 1.4L, 1396cc MPFI petrol engine produces 85PS power and the 1.3L, 1248cc, Multijet diesel engine produces 76PS power at 4000rpm.

The Tata Manza comes with a centrally mounted MID (multi information display) available in the higher end vehicles along with ABS (Antilock Braking System) and airbags to enhance safety.

The car is competitively priced in the range of Rs 5.5-7 lakh (Rs 550,000-700,000) to compete with other sedans of this segment.

Maruti Suzuki SX4 diesel

According to media reports, the country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki would be launching the diesel SX4 in the second half February.

The diesel SX4 is going to be powered by Fiat's 90bhp (VGT), 1.3 Multi-jet diesel engine that powers Linea and Indigo Manza.

The Swift Dzire has the same base engine but the SX4 will get it with a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT).

The car is likely to be priced around Rs 7-8 lakh (Rs 700,000-800,000), which would make it about Rs 1 lakh (Rs 100,000) cheaper than the diesel Volkswagen Vento.
