1. Air propulsion (Cadillac Aera)

Cadillac will launch a futuristic vehicle, Aera by 2030. Aera is a 1,000 lb (454 kgs), 2+2 touring coupe, with a range of 1,000 miles and an advanced body structure based on a 3D lattice, mono-formed frame. The Cadillac Aera is powerful, stylistic and lightweight.

2. Interchangeable carbon fibre body panels (Smart 454 WWT)

The Smart 454 WWT Concept is an innovative 2-seater with plastic body panels and a frame made of carbon fibre manufactured by knitting robots. It is designed by Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Germany.

3. In-wheel magnetic drive system (Nissan iV)

The Nissan iV concept is a high performance electric vehicle. Created by a team of thirteen Mazda designers for the 2010 LA Auto Show's Design Challenge. The task was to design a four-seater car under 1,000 lbs (454 kgs). The Nissan iV is set to be launched by 2035.

4. Energy-producing body panels (Toyota Nori)

Toyota Nori concept car stands out on fuel economy, nil emissions, use of green materials and innovative design. Showcased at the LA Auto Show's 2010 Design Challenge, the concept car contains several solar cells.

5. Pure oxygen emissions (Mercedes-Benz Biome)

Mercedes-Benz Biome is an ultra light vehicle that utilises technologies from nature to achieve unparalleled efficiency. Mercedes-Benz Symbiosis is a system in which the vehicle becomes part of the ecosystem like the leaves of a tree.

Symbiosis vehicles collect energy from the sun and store it in chemical bonds, in the form of a fluid called BioNectar4534. Mercedes has also developed technology to retrofit trees with receptors which can harvest their excess solar energy into BN4534.

This creates an incentive to plant more trees and collect more energy, while also helping the ecosystem. The vehicle can be composted after its lifespan is complete or used as building material.

6. Turbine-electric hybrid power (C-X75 concept car)

Jaguar's C-X75 concept car is capable of running for 110 km (68 miles) in an electric mode on a six-hour domestic plug-in charge.

Two lightweight micro gas-turbines can generate enough electricity to recharge the vehicle's lithium-ion batteries and extend its range to 900 km (560 miles).

7. Vegetable-based components (Honda's Air concept car)

Honda's Air concept car has an organic design with vegetable-based body panels. A lightweight, open four-seater car, it comes with a compressed-air powertrain. Air is powered by a compressed air and pneumatic regulator system and has a total weight of 800 lb.

8. Electric rickshaw (Maybach DRS)

A zero-emission concept rickshaw powered by in-wheel electric motors, the car was conceived for the LA Auto Show's 2010 Design Challenge.

The Maybach DRS (Den-Riki-Sha) is a concept electric rickshaw. Inspired from Jin-Riki-Sha (Japanese version of rickshaw), it blends green design with modern design.

9.Transparent instrument panels (Kia Pop Concept)

Kia Pop Concept is an all-electric vehicle with zero emissions that is three meters long. The Kia Pop has a dynamic design with two seats at the front. The luggage area of the Kia Pop is limited to the space remaining between the rear seat and the left side of the car.

The car has rear-view cameras in each door, a full length glass roof, and a transparent OLED panel that displays all your instrument readouts when the car is running.
