NSE-50 Index

Equities recover to close very slightly below

Equity prices, after opening on a weak note, recovered towards the close on good buying interest by the local investors on the National Stock Exchange on Tuesday

Reflecting the mix trend, the NSE-50 Index opened at 1125.65 points, hovered in the same range for some time, showing a low of 1112.50 points, and finally closed at 1123.80 points, suffering by 1.90 points compared to Monday's close of 1125.70 points.

Similarly, the Midcap Index inched lower by 0.75 points to close at 1261.55 points over previous close of 1262.30 points.

The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 17.1 billion involving 59 million shares and the number of trades was 158,340. The total turnover at the debenture segment was Rs 12.8 million.

Among the top gainers for the day were Hindalco, Glaxo, HPCL, Mahindra and Mahindra and MRPL, while the top losers included HDFC, IDBI, TVS Suzuki, Essar Steel and IFCI.

Activity was led by ITC with a total turnover of Rs 6.8 million, followed by Tata Tea Rs 3.1 million, Reliance Rs 2.6 billion, SBI-N Rs 741.7 million, Satyam Comp Rs 36.14 million, Hind Lever Rs 264.4 million, Castrol Rs 234.1 million, TISCO Rs 233.9 million, TELCO Rs 213 million and ACC Rs 210.5 million.
