Nifty moves up 10.5 points

Pivotal prices moved up further on continued buying support from foreign institutional investors and bull operators on the National Stock Exchange in Bombay on Thursday.

The NSE-50 index opened steady at 1100.85 points, touched a day's high of 1112.40 points and a low of 1098.35 points. The Nifty closed at 1111.35 points, showing a net gain of 10.5 points as against the previous day's close of 1100.85 points.

The midcap index closed at 1247.75 points over the last trading day's close of 1245.10 points, gaining 2.65 points. The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 18.98 billion, involving 59.5 million shares, while the numbers of trades were 148,533.

Among the gainers were Cochin Refineries, GE Shipping, ITC, Tata Power, and MTNL, while losers were TVS Suzuki, Gujarat Amb Cement, East India Hotels, ICICI, and Essar Steel.
