January 06, 2011 18:45 IST
TelecomTelecom representative body AUSPI on Thursday welcomed the steps being taken by Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal for addressing various telecom issues, including licensing, spectrum allocation and tariffs under his 100 days' agenda.

"It is laudable to know about the formulation of a comprehensive National Telecom Policy 2011, including recognition of telecom as infrastructure and essential services.

"We are confident that these steps will definitely propel the growth of Indian telecom sector to further growth," Code Division Multiple Access industry association Association of Unified Service Providers of India said.

Last week, while releasing the 100-day agenda for telecom sector, Sibal had announced formulation of a new and comprehensive National Telecom Policy, 2011 that he said will be 'clear and transparent'.

Sibal had further stated that the department of telecommunication will hold consultations with key stakeholders to evolve a 'clear and transparent' regime covering licencing, spectrum allocation, tariffs/pricing, linkage with roll-out
performance, spectrum sharing, trading and mergers and acquisition.

"The concept of holding consultation with the stakeholders to evolve a clear and transparent regime covering various issues like licensing, spectrum allocation, spectrum trading, merger and acquisition in a technology agnostic environment is a progressive step", the association further added.
