Railways register 3.42% growth in freight traffic

TrainIndian Railways have carried 755.97 million tonnesĀ of freight traffic during April 2010-January 2011 period.

The volume of freight traffic in April-January shows an increase of 25.01 MT over the freight traffic of 730.96 MT carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 3.42 per cent.

With the freight loading target of 944 MT for 2010-11, Railways are facing a daunting task of carrying 189
MT in the remaining two months of the current fiscal.

During January, the freight traffic carried by Railways was 82.55 MT.

There is an increase of 4.22 MT over the freight traffic of 78.33 MT carried by the Indian Railways during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.39 per cent.
