Railway earnings up by 19%

The total earnings of Indian Railways during April to November this year were Rs 78,868.17 crore compared to Rs 66,150.48 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 19.23 per cent.

Earnings from goods transportation have gone up by 24.14 per cent with the figure at Rs 54,487.10 crore, up from Rs 43,891.25 crore last year, according to Railway Ministry data.

Passenger earnings during this period stood at Rs 20,423.31 crore compared to Rs 18,742.83 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 8.97 per cent.

Earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 2,061.30 crore during April-November 2012 compared to Rs 1,860.49 crore during the same period last year.

The total numbers of passengers travelling by trains during this period were 5,700.57 million compared to 5,517.86 million during the same period last year.
