Hyundai will be launching the new ix25 compact SUV called Creta in the Indian market in the second half of current year.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) on Tuesday revealed the name of Hyundai’s ‘Global SUV’ which will mark its world premiere in India in the second half of current calendar year.

The Hyundai Creta will launch first in India, and will then be sold in worldwide markets, the Korean major said in a statement.

The Hyundai Creta will be an “influential global model” which will represent the company in the compact SUV segment, one of the fastest-growing vehicle segments, and will extend Hyundai’s reach to more customers in “new and established international markets”, the manufacturer said.

Talking further about its name, HMIL said that the ‘Creta’ name is “simple and easy to remember”.

“Pronunciation of Creta evokes welcome similarities with the term creative”, HMIL said in its statement.

The Hyundai Creta is based on the Hyundai ix25 which is currently sold exclusively in China.

The compact SUV measures 4.27 meters in length and will rival the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and the Nissan Terrano in the Indian market.

Power for the Hyundai Creta will come from the same engines found on the Verna – 1.6-liter petrol and diesel units coupled to 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions respectively.

An entry-level 1.4-liter diesel engine is also expected to power the Creta.

Rivals: Maruti SX4 S-Cross, Mahindra Scorpio, Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster
Expected price: Rs 800,00,00-100,00,00

Hyundai Creta is currently sold exclusively sold in China and hence above images sport a left-hand drive, the soon-to-be-launched India version will adorn a right-hand drive.
