New judge to hear Singur case from tomorrow

SingurA new judge of the Calcutta high court who took up the Singur case on Wednesday directed that the matter would be taken up for hearing from Thursdaay, after Justice Saumitra Pal recused himself.

Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji, taking up the Tata Motors' case challenging the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, directed that he would hear it daily from Thursday in the afternoon hours.

Justice Pal on Tuesday recused

himself and sent the matter back to the Chief Justice on personal grounds stating he personally knew one of the persons whose names appeared in the files relating to the case.

Chief Justice J N Patel on Tuesday reassigned the case to Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji.

The Supreme Court had on June 29 granted interim stay on return of 540 acre taken back from TML, to the farmers till disposal of the case before the high court.

Justice Pal had been hearing the matter on a daily basis since the first week of July.
