How Vodafone employees will make a difference

January 25, 2013 18:14 IST

Vodafone India launched the ‘World of Difference’ (WOD) programme, a flagship initiative run by the Vodafone Foundation, for the second time in India.

Operating in 21 countries worldwide, the WOD programme is Vodafone’s unique way of corporate giving that goes beyond the traditional ‘cheque book’ approach.

By tapping into the skills, expertise and passion of people, WOD enables people to take time out from their regular jobs and work for a charity of their choice.

The WOD programme in India runs in partnership with Dasra, India's leading strategic philanthropy foundation.

Twenty five Vodafone India employees, selected after a rigorous application process, will embark on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work for 25 different NGOs spread across the country on an exciting and unique project placement for 8 weeks commencing mid-January 2013.

Many will leave their homes, family and friends to travel far to apply their skills to a charitable cause in a completely new environment.

One of the employees will travel to Jammu & Kashmir from Pune to work with Kashur Dastakar, while other from Kerala to Bihar to work with the Bihar Development Trust and one employee will move to West Bengal from Gujarat to support IIMPACT.

These employees will use their skills, expertise and passion to help organisations specialising in areas like healthcare, education, disability and women empowerment.

The project will allow Vodafone employees to undergo focused training in the social sector, work on the ground with their chosen NGO at company costs and continue to receive their salary.
