Buoyed by growing luxury car market in India, German luxury car-maker Audi India, on Monday launched its powerful sedan Audi R8 5.2 FSI with V10 engine in the domestic market. The company introduced the R8 with V8 engine in India in 2008, which is the latest car is the upgraded version.
Priced at Rs 1.35 crore (Rs 13.5 million), the R8-V10 is sold in India as a completely built unit. With the launch, the company aims to garner a 25 per cent market share this year, up from the current 20 per cent.
"We are happy to launch the new R8-V10 engine here in India. Already, we have got bookings for 15 units," Audi India Director Michael Perschke said after unveiling the car.
Last year, Audi sold 3,003 units and plans are to sell more than 4,500 units this year, Perschke said. At present, Audi sells the A4, Audi A6, Audi A8 series and Audi Q5 and Q7 SUVs in India.
