Air India may get Rs 520 cr more

Ailing Air India may get about Rs 520 crore (Rs 5.2 billion) for carrying out VVIP operations if Parliament approves the supplementary demand for grants for the current year.

Provisions have been made in the Home Ministry's demands to clear the "pending claims" of Air India of Rs 235 crore (Rs 2.35 billion) and another Rs 199.64 crore (Rs 1.99 billion)

towards maintenance of aircraft used for VVIP travel.

In the Defence Ministry's supplementary demands, provision for another Rs 85.56 crore (Rs 855.6 million) for aircraft maintenance was made.

The supplementary demands for grants for additional gross expenditure of Rs 34,724 crore (Rs 347.24 billion) for 2011-12 was presented in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
