NSE-50 Index

Nifty regains ground, rises
12.55 points

Pivotal prices recovered on good investment by the foreign institutional investors short covering by the bear operators on country's largest national stock exchange in Bombay on Wednesday.

The NSE-50 Index opened nearly steady at 1138.45 points, touched day's high of 1152.65 points, low of 1138.45 points before closing at 1150.45 points, showing a net gain of 12.55 points as against its previous close of 1137.90 points.

The Midcap Index finished at 1269.85 points over the last trading day's close of 1254.60 points gaining 15.25 points.

The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 15.4 billion involving 50.7 million shares.

Top gainers were Rel Petro, ICICI Limited, Rel Capital, TISCO and Tata Tea and losers were Ind Rayon, Bajaj Auto, MTNL, Hind Lever and Indo Gulf Fert.

The volume of the business was led by textile giants Reliance with turnover of Rs 5.8 billion, ITC Rs 3.1 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1.9 billion, TISCO Rs 978.1 million, SBI-N Rs 75.94 million, ACC Rs 437.6 million, ICICI Rs 308.9 million, TELCO Rs 203.9, Infosys Tech Rs 190.2 million, MTNL Rs 183.6 million, Castrol Rs 154.5 million, Hind Lever Rs 82.2 million, Ranbaxy Rs 70.8 million, BSES Rs 70.7 million, BHEL Rs 65 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 59.3 million, TVS Suzuki Rs 58.4 million, L&T Rs 52.9 million, Rel Capital Rs 50.7 million, ICICI Bank Rs 46.6 million, BPCL Rs 45.2 million, Satyam Comp Rs 35.8 million, Rel Petro Rs 32.8 million, LML Rs 29.9 million and Colgate Rs 25.2 million.
