A marginal recovery

Pivotal prices at the National Stock Exchange recovered marginally on renewed buying support by financial institutions and bull operators.

NSE-50 index opened at 987.70 points, touched the day's high of 1084.80, low of 974.20, and closed at 995.15, showing a net gain of 7.30 points as against its previous close of 987.85 points.

The midcap index closed at 1143.55 points over Wednesday's 1136.10 points, gaining 7.45 points. The total turnover rose to Rs 21.35 billion from last day's Rs 16.02 billion.

The ITC registered a turnover of Rs 14.37 billion. It was followed by Tata Tea (Rs 1.51 billion), Reliance (Rs 1.46 billion), SBIN (Rs 977 million), Castrol (Rs 363.1 million), Hind Lever (Rs 253.6 million), ACC (Rs 190.6 million), Telco (Rs 184 million), MTNL (Rs 173.2 million). Tisco (Rs 156.3 million), Infosystch (Rs 141.6 million), L and T (Rs 109.6 million), ICICI (Rs 97million), Bank of Baroda (Rs 85.1 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 80.4 million), Softsolint (Rs 75 million), Hero Honda (Rs 58.4 million), Satyam Comp (Rs 54.8 million), P and G (Rs 48.6 million), Ranbaxy (Rs 42.7 million), BSES (Rs 41 million), IPCL (Rs 40.3 million), VSNL (Rs 38.1 million) and LML (Rs 31.4 million).

The top gainers were ITC, Hindustan Lever, Indo Gulf, Larsen and Toubro and Tata Tea. The losers included Mahindra and Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, IPCL, ICICI and Reliance.
