Guwahati HC dismisses Tata Tea directors' anticipatory bail

The Guwahati high court on Monday dismissed the anticipatory bail petitions of Tata Tea Managing Director R K Krishna Kumar, Executive Director S M Kidwai, and executive K Sridhar.

A special bench comprising Justice V D Gyani and Justice N S Singh did not even grant two days to Tata Tea counsel Mahesh Jethmalani to move a special leave petition in the Supreme Court.

The Tata Tea and its three executives are accused of funding the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom militants as well as maintaining a nexus with them.

Assam Additional Advocate General Pranab Pathar, clarifying the 16-page order, said the Tata Tea executives were now open to being arrested. "However, it is the investigating officer and the police who will decide on it," he added.

Tata Tea counsel Mahesh Jethmalani and Ryan Karanjiwala said they would move the Supreme Court at the earliest.
