NSE-50 Index

Nifty up 6.20 points, high volumes registered

Pivotals gained marginally on the National Stock Exchange and high volumes were recorded on the last day of current settlement cycle on Tuesday.

Reflecting the trend, the NSE-50 (Nifty) Index opened at 1083.80 points, touched the day's high of 1097.05, declined to touch the day's low of 1079.55 points, and later ended at 1090.20 points, netting a gain of 6.20 points over the previous close of 1084.00 points.

Similarly, the Midcap Index gained by 0.15 points to 1238.30 points against the previous close of 1238.15 points.

The total turnover reported during the day was at Rs 20.8 billion.

ITC topped the list of turnover by registering the highest turnover of Rs 11.2 billion, followed by Reliance Rs 3.7 billion, SBI Rs 1.3 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1.3 billion and TELCO Rs 422.2 million.

Hectic activity was observed at the other counters like MTNL Rs 357.5 million, L&T Rs 257.7 million, Hind Lever Rs 246.6 million, Castrol Rs 224.4 million, TISCO Rs 220.5 million, ACC Rs 179.9 million, Hero Honda Rs 144,5 million, ICICI Rs 110.8 million, BHEL Rs 91.8 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 74.3 million, Digital Equip Rs 71.2 million, LML Rs 54.1 million, Colgate Rs 46.2 million, Ranbaxy Rs 44.4 million, Soft Solvent Rs 40.2 million, BSES Rs 33.2 million, Rel Capital Rs 32.7 million, Satyam Comp Rs 30.7 million, IPCL Rs 27.3 million and GE Ship Rs 24 million.

Among the gainers, engineering giant TELCO improved by 3.96 per cent to Rs 340.25, Cochin Ref gained by 3.87 per cent to Rs 158.35, Tata Chem moved up by 3.33 per cent to Rs 151.90, Hindalco quoted higher by 2.33 per cent to Rs 962.90 and Indo Gulf Fert gained by 2.32 per cent to Rs 37.55 compared to their previous close.

Among the losers, GE Ship, IPCL, Reliance, Ashok Ley and TVS Suzuki declined by 4.66, 3.29, 2.38, 2.23 and 1.63 per cents to Rs 43.95, 93.95, 354.15, 63.50 and 414.65 respectively as against their previous close.
