Nifty up by 3.8 points

Pivotals firmed on the National Stock Exchange today following good buying support from institutional investors.

Reflecting the trend, the NSE-50 index opened at 1051.45 points, touched the day's high of 1066.25, fell to touch day's low of 1049.55 and ended at 1054.80 points, showing a net gain of 3.40 points over the previous close of 1051.40 points.

The Dollar Nse-50 index gained by 3.80 points to 934.15 points as against the previous close of 930.35 points. The Midcap index dropped by 7.50 points to 1153.25 points as against the previous close of 1160.75 points.

The total turnover reported during the day was Rs 15 billion. ITC continued to top the list of turnover by registering highest the volume of Rs 7.2 billion, followed by Tata Tea Rs 1.2 billion, State Bank Rs 1.1 billion, Reliance Rs 989.6 million and Castrol Rs 640.7 million.

Hectic activity was observed at the other counters like Hind Lever Rs 440.7 million, ACC Rs 399.5 million, MTNL Rs 348.5 million, P&G Rs 311.2 million, Colgate Rs 275.6 million, TISCO Rs 227.8 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 194.1 million, L&T Rs 193.7 million, TELCO Rs 180.8 million, BHEL Rs 130.5 million, BSES Rs 123.9 million, Corp Bank Rs 117.8 million, LML Rs 70.5 million, ICICI Rs 42.6 million, Infosys Tech Rs 39.9 million, Sterlite Rs 37.7 million, Ponds Rs 29 million, M&M Rs 26.8 million, IPCL Rs 26 million and HDFC Rs 24.6 million.

Among the top gainers, IDBI gained by 6.91 per cent to Rs 93.55, BSES up by 6.42 per cent to Rs 176.45, Orient Bank increased by 4.42 per cent to Rs 56.40, L&T firmed up by 4.42 per cent to Rs 197.40 and rel petro up by 3.90 per cent to Rs 21.30. Among the losers, Thermax lost by 4.51 per cent to Rs 163.05, Essar Guj down by 3.38 per cent to Rs 15.70, Colgate dropped by 2.82 per cent to Rs 244.45, BHEL down by 2.32 per cent to Rs 348.95 while Hindalco drifted lower by 2.23 per cent to Rs 738.15.
