NSE-50 Index

Nifty gains marginally

Pivotal prices recovered marginally on lack of selling pressure and renewed buying support from institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange in Bombay today.

The NSE-50 index closed at 979.85 points showing a net gain of 14.70 points as against the previous close of 965.15 points. The Dollar NSE-50 index finished at 875.85 points over the last week's close of 846.60 points gaining 11.25 points.

The Midcap index settled down at 1103.60 points as compared to previous close of 1090.30 points increasing by 13.30 points. The total turnover in the exchange was Rs 12.4 billion involving 44.9 million shares.

The major gainers were Nestle by Rs 10.7 to Rs 259.65, Tata Tea by Rs 15 to Rs 378, IFCI by Rs 1.15 to Rs 29.15, ACC by Rs 50.45 to Rs 1294.85 and TISCO by Rs 4.65 to Rs 127.10.

The losers were Mahindra and Mahindra by Rs 11.10, MRPL by Re 0.25 to Rs 18.95, Hindalco by Rs 4.5 to Rs 704.95, Grasim by Re 0.7 to Rs 326.60 and IndoGulf by Re 0.05 to Rs 34.40.

The ITC led with the highest turnover of Rs 5.3 billion, followed by RIL Rs 1.9 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1.4 billion, ACC Rs 658.6 million, SBI-N Rs 571.9 million, Castrol Rs 443.3 million, TISCO Rs 33.68 million, TELCO Rs 314.7 million, Hind Lever Rs 206.4 million, Infosys Tech Rs 134.3 million, P&G Rs 118.2 million, MTNL Rs 106.9 million, Colgate Rs 91.2 million, Oriental Bank Rs 71.9 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 60.8 million, L&T Rs 58.8 million, Satyam Comp Rs 57.7 million, BHEL Rs 51.7 million, Ranbaxy Rs 31 million, Pentsfware Rs 27.6 million, Corp Bank Rs 27.6 million, LML Rs 26.8 million, Ponds Rs 14.5 million, BSES Rs 12.6 million and M&M Rs 11 million.
