NSE-50 Index

Nifty dips

Pivotals declined moderately on the National Stock Exchange following speculative selling pressure from operators.

Reflecting the downtrend, the NSE-50 Index opened at 1030.20, touched the day's high of 1036.60, declined to the day's low of 1007.80 and later ended at 1011.75 points, netting a loss of 18.95 points over the previous close of 1030.70 points.

The NSE-50 Defty Index moved down by 8.80 points to 900.25 points against the previous close of 909.05 points. Similarly, the Midcap Index lost by 21.40 points to 1146.50 points as against the previous close of 1167.90 points.

The total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was at Rs 21 billion.

ITC topped the list of turnover by registering highest turnover of Rs 11.7 billion, followed by Reliance Rs 4.3 billion, SBI Rs 1.2 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1 billion and Castrol Rs 410.6 million.

Hectic activity was observed at the other counters like ACC Rs 302.1 million, TELCO Rs 242.5 million, MTNL Rs 227.1 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 167.1 million, TISCO Rs 158.5 million, Hind Lever Rs 118 million, Colgate Rs 113.1 million, BHEL Rs 93.6 million, P&G Rs 72.3 million, Infosys Tech Rs 49.9 million, L&T Rs 49.5 million, Satyam Comp 45.5 million, LML Rs 39.3 million, Sterlite Rs 34.2 million, Pents ware Rs 32.3 million, BSES Rs 30.7 million, Ponds Rs 29.9 million, Ranbaxy Rs 24.7 million, ICICI Rs 22.1 million and Rel Cap Rs 21 million.

The top gainers were Reliance, Grasim, Ind Hotels and Ranbaxy. The top losers were MTNL, ICICI, Glaxo, Thermax and IPCL.
