Palkhivala, Darbari Seth to step down from Tata board

At a meeting of the Tata Industries board held today, senior director Nani Palkhivala, Darbari Seth, S A Sabavala, K M Chinnappa, S R Vakil, A H Tobaccowala and F C Kohli, who are also common directors on the board of Tata Sons, offered to step down in order to enable the group to restructure the Tata Industries board.

Their decision was a reflection of their desire to provide an opportunity for the upcoming younger generation of Tata executives to be recognised and inducted on the board of Tata Industries, which over the years has provided the strategic thrust for the group's entry into new emerging areas, a Tata Services release said in Bombay.

The board, while accepting their retirement, recorded its deep appreciation of the invaluable contribution that each of the senior directors have made individually and collectively in providing direction to the group.

At the request of the chairman, Ratan Tata, the counsel of the eminent directors will continue to be available to the board from time to time. Nominations to the vacant positions will be placed before the board for its approval in due course, the release added.
