Email this report to a friend

Indian Information Technology Minister Pramod Mahajan, currently on a tour of the Silicon Valley, met leaders of information technology, or IT, majors like Cisco, Oracle, Yahoo, Hewlett-Packard and others.

He also addressed Indian community meetings arranged by the Federation of Indo-American Associations and by the Overseas Friends of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The minister explained to the Indian community in the West Coast the current concerns of the National Democratic Alliance, or NDA, government and its ambitious programme in the IT sector.

He emphasised his government's intention to carry information technology to the masses in order to realise fully the employment potential in this sector.

Later, Mahajan and his high-level delegation had an interaction with member of the Silicon Valley Advisory Group that was set up after their visit to India in January last. He informed them of the Indian Government's current plans in the IT-Telecom sectors.

The minister asked the NRI advisory group to give their suggestions in both these areas.

He pointed out the speed with which the IT Bill has been passed by Parliament, intended to create the necessary infrastructure for both e-commerce and e-governance, said an embassy press release.
