Knowledge-based industry gets prominent place in new millennium Sensex

India's premier stock exchange index and the economy's unofficial barometer, the 30-share Sensitive Index or Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange, has been revised effective April 10, 2000.

Four companies belonging to the knowledge-based industries have got precedence over those from the conventional businesses.

Hyderabad-based Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Satyam Computer Services, and Bombay-based Reliance Petroleum and Zee Telefilms are the new entrants to the hallowed club of 30 most observed Indian companies.

Those omitted from the list are Indian Hotels, IDBI, Tata Chemicals and Tata Power. Incidentally, three of these -- barring IDBI -- belong to the venerated Tata group.
