Email this report to a friend

Karnataka will double the number of information technology graduates to meet the growing demand for one million professionals by the end of next decade, state Chief Minister S M Krishna said on Friday.

Delivering a lecture on 'Karnataka's role in new economic restructuring' at Indian Council of Social Science Research in Bangalore he said there were 70,000 IT graduates trained from IT training centres giving Karnataka a prominent position accounting for 28 per cent IT professionals in the country.

He said his government was committed to various educational initiatives to enable expansion of quality knowledge resources into huge numbers that would be required in the coming years. The government would encourage new colleges in IT and would actively support private universities in the subjects started by professionals.

Existing colleges would be encouraged to transform themselves into capable of training in IT.
