Pivotals recover; Nifty up 36 points to 1415

Pivotals staged a smart recovery on heavy buying support from local operators and foreign funds at the opening day of the current settlement at the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the upbeat trend, the S&P CNX Nifty gained by 36.15 points to 1415.30 points from 1379.15 points of the previous day.

CNX Nifty Junior shot up by 87.15 points to 2821.80 points from 2734.65 points while the S&P CNX Defty rose by 28.35 points to 1125.10 points from 1096.75 points.

The S&P CNX 500 appreciated by 24.15 points to 1031.35 points from 1007.20 points and CNX Midcap 200 improved by 29.05 points to 963.60 points from 934.55 points.

The NSE witnessed total turnover of Rs 32.26 billion in 402,462 trades, which involved 11.837 shares. Debentures were traded for Rs 260,000.

About 934 securities gained, 212 lost while 43 remained unchanged. About 211 securities hit their price bands today.

The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: BHEL which shot up by 8.01 per cent to Rs 275.85 from Rs 255.40, Dr Reddy's (8 per cent to Rs 1514.45 from Rs 1402.25), Reliance Petroleum (7.83 per cent to Rs 46.80 from Rs 43.40), IPCL (7.44 per cent / 134.95 / 125.60) and Reliance Industries (6.15 per cent / 239 / 225.15).

The top losers included Grasim which eased by 4.03 per cent to Rs 387.30 from Rs 403.55, TVS Suzuki (2.53 per cent / 704.05 / 722.35), P&G (0.70 per cent / Rs 1182.10 / Rs 1190.45) and Britannia (0.54 per cent / 1047.20 / 1052.90).
