About 100,000 executives and officers of 17 public sector undertakings have decided to defer till October 31 their ongoing agitation for pay revision and autonomy for their boards.

In a statement today, Rakesh Pandey, National Thermal Power Corporation Executives' Federation secretary, said the decision was taken by the officers' associations of 17 PSUs after getting positive assurances from secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, S Narayan, and the request from secretary, power, to defer their action till a new government was formed.

The PSUs include NTPC, ONGC, IOCL, BPCL, BHEL, VSNL, NHPS and OIL.

According to Pandey, the power and DPE secretaries had assured the agitating officers that their two main demands would be put up before the new Cabinet for favourable consideration.

The officers of the PSUs had resorted to an agitation to protest against the government attempts to freeze the powers of their boards and reduce their autonomy. The navratna organisations should be able to decide on their own the compensation packages for their employees, they added.
